MAP AND DIRECTIONS:

Google Maps Directions to the Eldorado Outpost - Located just outside of the trails.

To get to the Arrowhead Campground from the Outpost, turn left out of the parking lot. Look for the sign for the horse camp and turn left on SR1154. Make a right at the "T" intersection onto SR544. Go past the horse camp to the stop sign at the next T intersection. You will see a sign saying Arrowhead Campground is to the left. Make the left onto the dirt road SR597. Make a right at the sign marking the turn to the camp ground on SR597B. The road is paved just before you pass a dump station. When you get into Arrowhead, keep your speed down and watch out for the speed bumps. The road will fork. You have to go to the right because the road becomes one way. The camp sites are well marked by numbers and with the last name of the person making the reservation.

THINGS TO BRING:

You must have a trail pass. An annual pass is $30. A day pass is $5 per day. Trail passes can be purchased at the Outpost.

It often rains at least one day during the event. So rain gear and tarps are recommended. Fire wood is always appreciated.

It is a good idea to bring a tool kit and some trail spares, as I can tell you from experience that sh_t happens on the trails. We tend to help one another out so if everybody brings something, we usually have everything covered and there is an auto parts store in Troy.

FOOD AND SUPPLIES:

This tends to be a very informal event. People come and go as they please; some preferring to hang out at camp or go fishing instead of trail riding. With the Flintlock Range now open, some will also go shooting (passes are $3 per day and are available at the Outpost). So bring enough food and drink to last the entire event. Food, drink and ice are available at the Outpost or in Troy. The Outpost also has a good breakfast for around $5. Usually there is a group dinner on Friday. If the weather is bad on Sat, we sometimes go into town and have dinner at Zeno's.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER NOTICE:
As always, this will be a completely un-sponsored and unofficial event ... No clubs or organizations will be overseeing the activities. This is simply going to be a bunch of friends and online acquaintances getting together for a weekend of fun, good food, and lots of off-road amusement.

ALL attendees will be utterly and solely responsible for themselves and the guests within their individual group(s) (including all vehicles and equipment), and shall be expected to abide by the laws, rules, and policies set-down by our true hosts, the United States Forestry Service and the people of the great state of North Carolina.

Not sure if I can make it this year. Van and I are considering attending the Moab event in mid-May. If we go, we'll probably have to leave by May 10. So that doesn't give us much time after this event.

That certainly would be an epic alternative!!

I've got a rodeo now and since the PO already flopped it on it's side... I might as well try a trial or two! I'm a strong maybe for this trip, but it'll be a game time (or a few weeks before) decision!

Spring break for Motormind. We look forward to being there for the 1st time and meeting all.

Site 36 the 27th to the 1st.

We are considering some variant of two essentially stock 2nd Gen troopers, a pop up, dual sport bikes and kyak.

Let the research begin. Any suggestions welcome.

There's some neat looking caves and landscape that's accessible via canoe/kayak just South of the dam at the bottom of Badin Lake - if you decide to bring your yak(s) let me know, I'd be interested in doing a paddle trip with you.

Shaggy,
That's what I talking about. The yaks are coming along for sure.
Ru
OK, cool! I can just tag along or help suggest a route or two, whatever your preference is. :D

Shaggy
Tag along/guide please.

My wife was borderline about joining the trip, but with your yak suggestion, she is likely joining the trip. I'm not sure if it's the yaks, the fact that her truck is going or if you two have something going on the side.

Regardless, I'm looking for to working out the details around the firepit.

Now researching a nice place to stop overnight to break up the 14 hour drive.

I showed her that picture, which sealed the deal. Mrs. Ru will join us.
She also loves to fish, I note a 10 day non-resident license is available for $18.
I've never done any fishing out there, but know that there are lots of places to do this. If my obsessive brain continues to spew on this topic I'll split out to a new thread as to not spam this one up too much, but for the immediate a here's link to a handful of possible trips - Narrows Dam is where the cave is, there are also some 7 mile sections of the Uwharrie River that are nice:

I'll bring some ideas, one of which will include checking this out:

After seeing that picture, I don't know how yet, but, I'm getting me a kayak just to go see that place. :D

I'd also like too explore more of the forest to the North of 109 for gold prospecting. Looking at the attch. map, the tan areas of the map are "Proclamation" areas. Any ideas what that means. :?: :?:

Smitty and I plan to be there this year. The Heep is up and running (not great, but it is driveable), and I am looking for another Trooper to start building for a trail truck. I will book a site soon. We are trying to figure the logistics out, but I believe that I will tow his Heep if I don't get my truck together in time. Option two is we may get some more friends to join us and I may tow the camper, and we will use another truck to tow the Heep or something like that. One way or the other I am done missing these events!! I need to reopen MAD MIKE'S GRILL & BAR. :eek:ccasion5:

Option 3, another missed event. I'll put you down as a maybe.
