Yeah, I generally do a long first day crossing the Great Plains, go 13-14 hours all the way to Denver. Some people don't like to drive that long, but once you get past, say, Grand Island, NE, traffic tapers off and it is an easy cruise, no worse than sitting in a hotel room. That leaves about 6 hours to Moab, but you are going through the Rockies and it takes a lot more concentration, so it is nice to hit them fresh in the morning.

Well we've run into a bit of trouble and there's a chance we'll have to cancel this year. I'll update shortly.

To the Moab crew - I propose we move the "Stoop" to the Kokopelli Lodge. Joe and I stayed there Friday night, and I think it is ideal for our gang. The place is old school, from the 50s, and there are 9 small but modern and very well appointed rooms with microwaves and fridges. The best thing is the setting. It is one block off of the heart of main street, but is quiet, with few neighbors to complain and no traffic noise to speak of, unlike the Apache. There is ample street parking right there for other Isuzoids who stop by. Pets are welcome. There are also a couple of patio tables and chairs in a small grassy area, and a hot tub. The price is right - $79 or $89 depending on one or two beds.

When we were there a group of Jeepers had the rest of the place and were sitting outside, chairs in a circle, having a good old time. Sound familiar?

The thing is, we need to move NOW to reserve the rooms before the Jeepers do. I have reserved a room for 5/13/18 to 5/19/18. It doesn't hurt to make a reservation, and you can cancel up to 48 hours before without penalty.

I agree with Steve! the Apache is not ideal for our group and the traffic noise has gotten very loud and the other guests do not like us and complain, it might be better to be at a smaller place that just has our group renting all the rooms if possible. I have booked a room at the Kokopelli Lodge for Sat, May 12, 2018 through Sun, May 19, 2018.
As of today we have 4 rooms booked so we may be able to book the entire hotel and be close to campgrounds and other hotels if we have more people than the Kokopelli Lodge can accommodate.

It is possible there will be a small discount if Jo books the whole place, but I wouldn't count on much as it is high season and they don't have much trouble selling rooms.

There was also some talk about moving it a week earlier to try to avoid some of the ROR crowd.

Yeah...I figured one major change at a time. Plus my aggravation at the "golf carts" as Craig calls them will be greatly alleviated if I don't have to listen to them buzz by the hotel all the time.

Another great trip, great trails, good friends and new friends Wes & Nesa. Started in N.W. Colorado for 2days of exploring the Irish Canyon area then on to Montrose to meet Kevin & Christine & their VXs. Then we headed west on the Rim Rocker Trail but only made 15 miles before the trail was block by snow at Iron Springs. So it was back to Montrose and a visit to the very nice Visitors Center where we got info heading us to Olathe and putting us on the 25 Mesa Road that intersected the Rim Rocker Trail at Columbine Pass. The next 140 miles was run in 2 day traveling at a leisurely pace to enjoy the scenery. We camped 2 nights along the trail, the first night was below Columbine Pass and the 2nd night at Buckeye Res. (a free BLM developed camp ground). We arrived in Moab ready for a shower and socializing (cold beer) with old friends. Then a week of fun trails and tall tails and catching up with news of the Isuzu community. I then said my farewells and head north to the San Rafael Swell with a plan of running the Devils Race Track which was a fun trail, just hard enough to be interesting but not enough to break anything. I came out at Feron, Utah and then went north to Huntington State Park for my last night of camping and a hot shower. What a trip, 2200 miles, seen a lot of new country and no serious carnage.

This I consider the second half of the Rim Rocker Trail. We hit highway 141 at the confluence of the Dolores and the San Miguel rivers with a short drive SE we crossed the the river and headed for Moab

Got a little lax on the last half of the trail about taking pictures.

Great pictures Dave, we had a lot of fun camping and doing trails with you. I posted some videos to my Youtube channel including your high water crossing on RR.
