GWNF Trip Memorial Day Weekend -- Cancelled

Postby Hack » Tue May 10, 2016 5:18 pm

Just throwing this out there. Is there any interest in a trip to GWNF on Memorial Day weekend? As usual, it would be easy wheeling for stock vehicles (I would be driving my stock Trooper as the Amigo is still out of commission), some shooting at the range, and primitive camping at a couple of spots including Meadow Knob at the top of the ridge. On a typical trip, we set up camp in the valley on Friday afternoon (for us lucky retired folks) or Friday night (for those unfortunate souls still working). We head up the mountain to WV on Sat. Some peel off and go paddling on the lake, most head to the shooting range. After several hours, we meet up at the range and take Rough Road to Second Mtn back to camp. On Sunday we move camp up to Meadow Knob and spend the night on top of the mountain. On Monday, we play on a couple of mild obstacles and in the mud holes, then drive home. We usually end up doing 30-40 miles on dirt in a weekend without doing the same trail twice.

I am in!! I already have it on my calender.

Now, the interesting thing is I don't know what I will be driving... Maybe I will have the Trooper? Maybe I will wheel the Expedition again. GW is one of the few places I think I would be comfortable taking it.

Cool! So the trip is on. I will be driving my Trooper as the Amigo is sitting in Joe's yard.

Will Smitty be coming with the Heep? Will you be towing anything?

If I can do it, I will not be towing anything. I think I can fit everything in the roof rack and the back. Probably will just be me.

Well crap....

I spoke too soon. I didn't realize that I had not updated my work calender since we moved our beach trip. We will be getting back Friday evening on this weekend. I am sure I am going to be wiped out from the trip, and will have a ton of stuff to do Saturday just to get things back to normal. I am going to have to pass on this one.

I will mention it to Smitty and see if he is up for it.

Sorry guys.

ROFL....

I am so dumb some times. I was looking at this thread and thinking of Labor Day weekend.

I still can't go as we have another camping trip already planned, so either way I am out. Just funny that I had the holidays mixed up.

Doesn't look too good, does it? Maybe we should think about a different weekend? Being retired, I see no reason to fight the holiday traffic if the timing doesn't work.

My business trip got pushed back a week. However, my truck is giving me a fit. Ever since lasts night it's been doing the same thing (sorta) as it did on the fall trip to uwharrie. But it's not throwing any codes. The RPMs are jumping all over the place. UGH! It's not safe to drive at the moment. :(

Sorry to hear that Marcus. You definitely don't want the rpms to be jumping around with the supercharger. No telling what will happen. Let's call it and try for some other time when you get things sorted out.

Looks like the coolant leak is the cause. I gotta find out where it's leaking from and hope ita not serious. I think it's coming from behind the timing belt covers. not sure.

Throw out some more dates. I wanna do this trip.

Its coming from around the timing belt covers. The coolant is coming down the front of the motor not the back. I am thinking water pump (either bushing or gasket) or one of the fan clutch mount bolts. One of them goes through to the water jacket. When I had to pull it a while back I did reseal it with teflon sealant but maybe I didn't use enough. I wont know for sure until I take the covers off and investigate it. Right now I am having a heck of a time, I hurt my elbow somehow (tennis elbow?) and turning a wrench is not a pleasant experience. Heck, trying to pick up any object right now is no fun.

I know the manual recommends using loc tite, also did you use an oem or after market gasket?
