Northeast Alabama Feb. 23 trail run

Postby trooper4me » Thu Jan 24, 2008 11:53 am

I was just going to let you guys know about this. This is an open run for anybody but there will be a lot of toyota guys there. No fear though, they do not hate on others. I will be wheeling a heep that day just because my trooper is not ready yet. Here is the link: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/t ... 008-a.html

These are a great group of guys if anyone is interested. If you have any questions just let me know and I'll do my best to answer them. Hope to see some of you there.

I'd be interested, but do you think a stock Trooper is capable of running this?

I ran it last year several times stock. Once or twice with only street tires and a lot of skinny pedal!

I'm in Auburn right now at school but I'm from Decatur. I have a friend with a toyota I'm trying to convince to go. If he says yes might head that way but it really depends on how the cash is flowing. Is this trail worth the drive from Auburn?

I would say yes, but maybe I'm partial. It is several trails with lots of different difficulties. It is a wildlife management area that has roads going up and down the mountains. You can check out the link that I posted and sift through to find pics from last year. Just judge from those if its worth it.

I really would like to keep my body damage to a minimum so I'll probably just wait till I get bigger tires. Let me know though if you hear anything else around North Alabama, I definetly want to get in to some good technical wheeling.

Oh, I doubt there will be body damage. The trails are really wide pretty much everywhere. If you can't make it though, we go a lot around here. Just let me know. Shoot me a pm if you have a time you want to go and I'll see what I can do.

Well, some time that you would like to ride just let me know and come on up. For this ride we have people coming from nashville, knoxville, somewhere in arkansas, pensacola, fl, somewhere in VA, and I think Kentucky. just what I can think of off the top of my head. So far its about 30 trucks!

Nice! Sounds like it'll be alot of fun. I've never been to that area... but I think its only several hrs away.

Maybe once the truck gets a new engine.... just got the new A/T tires, then a couple weeks later the h/g blows which chipped a piston.... just bought a house and too much going on to worry about the truck right now.

Looking at the pictures, it dosn't look too bad except for the mud.... I wonder if my 2wd Amigo would do well or if I'd just be getting stuck all day.

If you're taking the Acura I'll go for sure too. I looked at the pictures from that run and it looked like it would have been alittle too much since it rained right before then.

Guys, I haven't been on these trails in a couple of years now but from what I've heard most of them are mild now. The state has been maintaining them now and some are even graveled. Keep in mind the trails close to vehicle traffic on May 1 and reopen Oct 1. Be sure to print off a WMA map and rules page this is considered your "permit" for the land use. I'm not sure you need one for just trail riding but I always have one just in case.

I am interested, let me know if you guys decide to go.

I think Rocket City Rock Crawlers used to wheel there, but not sure if they still do. I've been too swamped to attend a club meeting.
