F*** it's cold, help?

Postby jakparady » Tue Dec 13, 2016 8:03 pm

Okay hopefully my subject grabbed you. I have a few weird electrical issues since the cold set in in MN in the last 3 days.

SYMPTOMS
- Horn stopped working, but when I tap the button, the high beam indicator comes on briefly (WTF) yes I checked the wires to see if snow disconnected anything in the grill
- front window illumination on both sides stopped working, but back window illumination works (on the master switch. This issue was present before the negative temps and the 2 front lights come back occasionally)
- The 3rd dial on thermo-control panel is really dim. However, I noticed when I put 4-hi on the other day, it was fully lit like the temp and fan speed dials (WTF)
- Aftermarket Bully brand remote lock stopped working. I know the batteries in the FOB are good.

QUESTIONS:
- Is this a normal cold snap thing?
- Is there a short where the Bully aftermarket remote lock splices into the lock wires in the drivers kick panel junction?
- why in the world would the high beam indicator flash when i hit the horn.... dafuq?
- Dash battery gauge says normal 13-13.5 while running, but if there's a short after that wire, could I have low battery?

Weird random electrical issues are often the result of a bad ground. The juice is trying to find its way back to ground and going every which way. The question is which ground wire is the one... Do you have a shop manual?

I'm in Minnesota too, the Trooper is under a snowdrift.

(I actually typed this list as a joke but people seem to like it.)

The shop manual for my 95 has an inch-thick electrical section. I don't think a Haynes will have enough detail to be helpful. You're welcome to have a look at mine if you want. There's little difference between a 94 and 95. I'm in the west metro Twin Cities.

So is that section just crazy full of diagrams? I can definitely find and clean all the ground points but do you think I can track down which wire is a compromised ground wire?

I am no expert, but I have watched a technician with a schematic and a simple test light figure it out.
