Wiring diagram for 96 Rodeo

Postby carwhisperer » Fri May 19, 2017 9:07 am

I need a wiring diagram for a 95/96 rodeo with the electronic speedo. Specifically, how does the vas connect to and drive the speedometer.

As a bonus, does anyone know if the needed signal is a square wave or sine wave? I believe there are two speedo wires that go to the cluster.

96 and 95 are likely quite different, 96/97 are kind of their own thing.
Don't have the manual in front of me, but what I recall (could be wrong) the VSS sends a square wave 4 pulses per revolution of the drive shaft.

OK thanks. I got this cluster from a JY Rodeo. I think it was a 96 but not sure. It has an electronic speedo. I have installed this cluster in a 1989 pickup with a Chevy LS1 and 4L60E. Trying to use the Chevy speedo output, from the Chevy PCM, to drive the Rodeo speedo. I believe it is a square wave signal at 4000 pulses per mile. I think 4 pulses per drive shaft revolution would be in the neighborhood of 8000 pulses per mile, which I have heard is a somewhat common spec for Japanese vehicles of this vintage, so that would make sense.

Can you tell me how the vss connects to the speedo? I believe the Rodeo vss has 3 wires.

There's nothing like having the wiring diagram. I was hooked up to the wrong wire in the cluster. I hooked the Camaro ECU's pin 50 to the correct Isuzu input to the speedometer (blue and black), put it in gear and the speedo works. It doesn't appear to be too far off from correct, but is probably reading a bit high.
