I am replacing the engine in my 1998 Acura SLX (Trooper engine). Reading all of the replies here has me kind of worried... any tips on what I should do to make sure my new engine doesn't develop the same problem this one has?
I'd just changed the oil in my SLX about 900 miles ago - had no idea about the oil problem. Was on my way to work and the truck started knocking - my mechanic said the engine seized.
Any help would be most appreciated.

CV boots, starter, EGR valve and tube, etc. Got roadworthy and decided to drive it for spring work which took me to New York state between Feb and April. The mileage was 223 K and it used about a quart of oil about every 500 miles. The oil change I did before the trip was with Rotella T6 5w-40. It burned it at the rate I stated previously. After about 2K miles the consumption started dropping very slowly. The majority of the first 1K miles was on interstate driving speeds. At around 3K-3.5K miles the consumption dropped to about one quart every 1.5-1.8K miles. I was really surprised and very glad! I changed oil and filter again at about 3.5K with the T6 again. So now having used the T6 for about 5-6K miles, the oil level is hardly dropping at all. One this last oil change I now have about 1.8K miles and the level is not dropping. This oil was suggested by Jerry Lemond a year or so ago and I thought it would be worth a try. It has worked better than I could have ever imagined! If I had this story told to me I'm not sure that I would believe! But since it happened to me I have become a believer !! Who would ever think that an engine that kind of mileage would clean up that well that quickly. I was thrilled that it just dropped to a quart every 1.5K miles. Thank you Jerry for the suggestion. I am totally amazed that this could make such an incredible change in oil usage. I have become a complete believer in Rotella T6.

No oil consumption
I do not let the engine go more than 3000 RPM. Over 4000 RPM the consumption is noticeable. It applies to several engines from today’s cars.

Is your Isuzu a manual transmission one? How about average RPM during the trip?
