So i just want to confirm my thoughts..

Postby thepotz » Tue May 16, 2017 7:20 pm

So I started burning coolant. Every once in a while a big cloud of coolant smelling white smoke. So I figured bad head gasket and replaced it. But still has coolant leak and white smoke. Oil is fine. Not milky whatsoever, so I am concluding cracked head. Does everyone agree? Or am I missing something else?

Cracked or warped. Have you done a compression test and if so what were the #s

No compression test yet but I am just trying to nail down the problem component

OK. The only way for coolant to enter the combustion chamber to be burned and create white smoke out the exhaust is one of 4 ways. Head gasket failure, warped head, cracked head, or incorrect torque pattern, torque ft lbs on the reinstall.

The best way to see what cylinder(s) are the culprit is via a compression test. Anything above 120lbs is good and no more than about 15% difference in pressures between cylinders.

Ok. Thx for the replies. I know the head was tightened correctly and holes were chased with a tap. Sounds like a confirmation on bad head. Either warped or cracked. I figure if the block was cracked at the cylinder wall I would surely get coolant in the oil. Thx for confirming my thoughts

Update... Odd thing... When I use my heater, it smokes way worse than when I don't? Thoughts?
