1995 Rodeo automatic

Postby HHD » Sat May 13, 2017 12:20 pm

My wife's Rodeo is having problems with the transmission slipping. I am trying to decide about buying a junk yard replacement or a rebuilt unit from somewhere. I don't know enough about these vehicles to know what other years and/or models interchange or who is a reputable source for a rebuild. Any help will be appreciated.

If you look for a replacement be aware that 2WD and 4WD transmissions are not interchangeable. Further, 00-02 Trooper and 02-03 Axiom transmissions cannot be used. Ditto for BMW and Cadillac variations. 00 and newer Rodeo/Passport/Amigo/Rodeo Sport transmissions have different electrical connectors so they are not plug and play although it is possible to rewire them to work with pre 00 vehicles.

If you plan on keeping the truck a reman is about $2000. A shop rebuild is about 2k-3k depending on shop. Since most of the cost is the labor to remove and install the transmission you could remove it yourself and have the shop rebuild it. If your mechanically inclined you could do your own rebuild for about 300 bucks.

Thanks for your reply. I could probably rebuild the trans although I have never done an automatic. This ride is full of firsts for me. I usually work on older vehicles. Do you know what the model designation is for this transmission?
