how do you test a ecm on a 2001 isuzu rodeo ls 3.2 engine 4wd std. trans.?

ECMs have hundreds of circuits. Individual functions can be tested using an OBDII interface like a GM TechII with bi-directional control or by comparing measured data to the values displayed by the scanner and referencing a wiring diagram. While it's in the vehicle, you can connect with a scanner and at least test for communications and stored codes.

As far as a bench test, I'm sure the manufacturer has a test rig of some sort, but the DIY'er has no hope of testing one that way. All we can do is throw it in the vehicle and see if it works.

Are you having a particular problem? ECMs hardly ever fail. They are well protected.
98 Amigo, 2.2 5sp 4x4, 4.77 gears and factory LSD.
Power nothing - No power windows, no power locks, no power engine. ;)
Even the hubs are manual now.

I hooked scan tool to truck,it read not responding to vehicle. I have used this scan tool for a lot of years, this is the

first time this happened.

If there is no +12Vdc reference power being supplied to the PCM/ECM/ECU or if the fuse supplying +12Vdc reference power to pin 16 of the DLC is blown the scan tool cannot communicate with the PCM/ECM/ECU.
