Sorry I didn't get back to you on this. I checked and you only have to remove the four small bolts to remove the balancer.

No worries, thanks.

So I talked to the machine shop today...

The good:
The head is fine, not cracked or warped, just needs new valve guides.
The crank just needs to be ground to .10 over.

The Bad:
He says he can't be completely sure until he takes out the old sleeves, but it looks like the block deck was resurfaced at an angle, and that is what was causing the original owners problems.
The oil pump is not putting out full pressure, so it need to be replaced.

Need new liners, pistons and bearings of course, plus the gasket set and everything else needed for an overhaul...

Machine shop costs are going to be $500 wish, ouch!

I am many thousands of miles away, and even if I weren't, that would be far more expensive than rebuilding what I have. Besides that's an industrial engine. Injector pump and who know what all elae is different.

I'll take a look at mine, if you'd like. Wouldn't the number on the bellhousing would be a casting #? Would that be the same as the part #?

MIKE CASTING NO WOULD ONLY TELL YOU IT IS THE SAME AS ANOTHER ONE JUST LIKE IT. WOULD NEED A PRINTED PT ,NO JUST CHECKED THAT PT NO 898 047 2300 AND IT CAME BACK AS NOT RECOGNIZED , DOESNT MEAN IT IS NT A GOOD NO , JUST NOT A U.S SOURCED NO , SO IT MIGHT TAKE A WHILE TO GET ONE.

This is what was on the box Jerry, don't know if it helps you figure anything more out. I would say to anyone, wait til I get it intalled for sure on the transmission. I'm 99.999% sure it fits, but I haven't been able to try it on the transmission side yet. It fits the engine perfectly.

Hopefully everything works out , it didn't look like the Pistons or liners had been changed out ..
You could open up the oil pump and inspect it , the pressure relief can be shimmed up if it checks out ..

Well! Christmas plot twist!
IMG_4511.JPG

Look what got dropped off yesterday!
IMG_4522.JPG

I picked up the engine parts from the machine shop on thursday, and went and took a look at this Rodeo. The engine is in pieces, but the body and frame are pretty near perfect for its age. I made the fellow an offer, which he accepted.

It's a 98 LS Manual transmission, with an LSD in the rear axle.

So, the diesel will go into this now, and the Amigo, sadly, has to go,ASAP...

Yup, unfortunately our vehicles change. I'm looking forward to seeing your Trooper take shape. The Rodeo is up and running. I have a lot of pics and story to upload, but I've been really busy lately.
