Swap in 5sp or new auto? (2000 trooper)

Postby ZooMaster » Fri Apr 28, 2017 12:20 pm

So i decided that i want to swap out my transmission, i want to swap it because in about a month i leave for a summer job a couple states away and would like to bring the trooper with me, and the amount of hills in the way make me doubtful the transmission would make it. So should i swap in a "newer" auto trans for a easy fix or take the opportunity and buy a local 5sp part car and swap it in? (btw the parts car engine is bad and it has no title so that rules it out for using that rig) the only problem i can see is time and tools to get the 5sp done but i would love to have the durability of the 5sp in the long run.

Can't speak for sure on second gens, but the first gen requires so many parts that a donor vehicle is almost necessary. Dennis
