4JG2 Diesel conversion on 2001 Trooper LS

Postby rmfurr » Tue Mar 14, 2017 1:27 pm

I have a friend that is doing a diesel conversion for me with a JDM 4GJ2 engine on an old 2001 trooper LS I bought just for this purpose. Does anyone on the forum have experience with this process and ideally this specific vehicle that I could ask some questions.

It seems like we've run into some problems. My friend said the motor mounts are too inches too far back and need to be moved. He also said that my Trooper has a limited slip differential and that the drivechain is not connecting properly to the new engine and he will have to go get a regular differential from another trooper in the junkyard to make it work.

Anyone familiar with these issues?

Very awesome thread! Is there anyone else on these forums that has experience with a diesel swap into a 2001 trooper? I'd like to find someone that I can ask a few questions.

As I understand it, if you are swapping from a 4 cylinder gas motor to a 4 cylinder diesel then mounts should line up. Your rear diff should not interfere with the engine swap in any way- although your driveshaft may need to be modified due to engine or transmission difference. IE, the automatic and manual transmissions are different lengths. Easiest swap is a 4 cyl man to 4 cyl manual. Good luck!

If they're Trooper specific questions, I can't help, but I swapped a 98 Rodeo, glad to answer anything I can.
