Virginia will once again recognize CCLs from 25 states!

Postby Hack » Wed Dec 23, 2015 10:56 am

Update: Accordingl to the Washington Post, VA will once again recognize CCLs from other states https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/vi ... story.html

According to the NYT:

Virginia will no longer recognize concealed-handgun permits issued by 25 other states, its attorney general announced Tuesday, a stark change in a state known for its expansive gun rights.

Attorney General Mark R. Herring, a Democrat and a strong proponent of gun restrictions, used his authority under state law to bar permit-holding residents of the 25 states, which span the country from Alaska to Florida, from carrying concealed weapons in Virginia. He is revoking Virginia’s so-called reciprocity agreements with those states.

Here is the actual notice:
Virginia State Police - Concealed Handgun - Reciprocity and Recognition

According to the PatriotPost, Virginia shoots itself in the foot:
http://patriotpost.us/posts/39649

Luckily for me, Virginia will still except my Utah CCL.

Great, embarrassing too. First I'd heard of it. With the Northern VA vote, it is almost a given we are going to get Democrats in office. If you look at our state house and the folks that represent the rest of VA the majority remains Republican and opposed to gun control. As I'm writing this, our Governor is out stumping for Hilary, so we can go from bad to worse pretty quickly.

VA appears to be going down the path of MD. In MD, Baltimore and the DC suburbs are very liberal. The rest of the state is conservative. In fact, Southern MD, Western MD and the Eastern shore are very pro outdoors including hunting. But the Baltimore/DC suburb block outnumbers the rest of the state and help the Dems pass restrictive gun laws back in 2013. Of course the fact that the homicide rate in Baltimore rose AFTER the passage of those laws has done nothing to convince the libs that their gun control efforts are little more than a placebo.

I really feel for you Virginians. A number of states will automatically prohibit Virginians from concealed carry, regardless of what CCLs they have. For example, SC and CO both will not allow anyone from a state that does not recognize their CCL to conceal carry in their states. (MD doesn't recognize any CCL but those issued by MD.) Other states are likely to no longer offer "reciprocity" with a state that doesn't recognize their CCLs.

Agree Mario, the NOVA block in VA could be a different state. Not mainstream VA at all. My brother in law / hunting partner lives in MD and I'm up there frequently, so I am aware of all the changes there and your restrictive CCL law. Baltimore violence has been through the roof, and as you said, despite all the wishful thinking laws that have been passed. Always a good idea to enforce the laws already on the books before you pass another group of ineffectual ones. I've been hunting Easton area and Kent County, MD for over 35 years now and it remains one of my favorite places in the world to go. Eastern shore VA too. I wish I could freeze both of them in time so future generations could enjoy them as long and as much as I have. When I retire (if I ever frigging retire) the Eastern Shore is a top contender for where I'd like to end up...most likely the VA end just because its not as developed at the MD end.

Yep, Virginia's eastern shore is less developed, more gun friendly and has lower taxes then Maryland's.

Willie, have you ever hunted in Assateague National Seashore? There are some blinds on the bay side accessible by 4wd. The only shooting that I have done in Easton is skeet at the Point at Pintail.

I have hunted there Mario, but the old guy I used to go with, he guided there for years, hung it up, so I don't know anyone there anymore. They advertise online so I might give it a try next year to see who is still hunting that area. Funny you asked because I was thinking about Chincoteague and Assateague last drive up to Kent County. Pintail Point is nice, sporting clays there too. You ever shoot Hopkins game farm right out side of Kennedysville?

No. I don't even know where Kennedysville is.

The only other place that I have shot on the Eastern shore is Delmarva Sporting Clays in Mardela Springs. It is a great place to practice pistols because they have steel targets. Also a good place to sight in rifles since the range goes to 300 yds. One of these days, I plan to shoot a few rounds out of their Barrett 50 cal.

Never shot a Barrett, but I'd like to! I only own one rifle now and haven't shot it in a good while. All shotguns and pistols these days, although I did shoot a 50 cal machine gun at VMI a few years ago. Every 5'th, or maybe it was 7'th, round was a tracer so you could follow the path of fire. Good day, but even with ear plugs in my ears were ringing for days. Lately I've been thinking I'd like to try that 338 lapula round out. I hear it shoots almost dead flat at 1000 yards.

Haven't shot Delmarva Sporting Clays, the big sporting clays tournament in MD used to be the Great American Shoot at Hopkins. It was always fun as they had subguage events for 410 and 20. By the time you got to 410, scores in the mid sixties were considered good. Kind of like the Trooper, if everything is working 65 % of the time I consider that good too

That is the way I feel about my body now that I passed 60. I have a bit more confidence in my Zoos than THAT.

Laughing, yep 65% of the body working after 60 is a good day. Laying on concrete floors working under the trucks sucks more each year but it still feels so good when you get something fixed and you know it is right. I never got used to using one of those little wheeled creepers either. Only an inch or two difference but I never could adjust to losing that inch or so of working space.

Biggest problem is getting back up after working under the truck. Also, the concrete seems to get colder each year regardless of the amount of cardboard.

Our Governor overruled the AG on this one and cut a deal with the General Assembly for background checks at gun shows. A compromise but all in all not a bad one. We now recognize all state CCL's here which is good for those of us that travel. NRA hasn't weighed in yet but I think it is reasonable from a pro gun control Governor. He's already getting flak from the rabid gun control crowd. Since it was a state decision and one that was debated I would tend to support it, as opposed to any blanket federal gun control law, especially given all the ones in place that aren't enforced. I don't see where this one infringes on my right to keep and bear arms as much as a restrictive CCL law would have. I know, sad to have to chose between the lesser of two evils, and anything passed anyway only affects the law abiding citizen. Criminals, being criminals, aren't going to pay any attention to any gun laws period. Which makes it all only a political issue for politicians to play with, as whatever laws have been passed haven't had any social impact. The areas with the most restrictive laws still have the highest gun related crimes.
