An old thread I know....

I tried the Scanoe with a slightly forward orientation for the kids and I romping around over the weekend. Despite being set forward by 18 inches from the natural CG, it rode well over 80 miles of dirt and 60 miles of freeway.

Funny you should say that, I've been looking for an original of that ad to blow up for my garage. Just today I finally found it!

Nice. The carbon fibre can't compare. Although I won't hesitate to beat it against the rocks. An open boat with the double blade? Looks like fun.

I built this one out of two deep throat c-clamps I bought for a few bucks at Harbor Freight. I also picked up two tire/wheels from there as well. I used 1/2" square tubing to spread them apart and then some 3/16" steel bare stock to push the wheels out far enough. Weld on some bolts that are the same diameter as the wheel axle holes and use lock nuts. Works like a charm! I can load the canoe into my truck, unload it and walk it down to the water and launch it with minimal effort. It really makes all that hard work much easier

Man, that thing looks stout! So I assume you clamp the dolly onto the stern then? Not sure what kind of boat you have, but atleast on the scanoe they have a squared off stern, which seems like it would work well with your design.

It is an Eska variant. It actually says OTASCO (Oklahoma Tire and Supply Co). It is a 5hp air cooled engine that Eska made and it was rebranded A LOT. I think all of the major department stores sold them. It is missing the shroud. I am not sure of the exact model since it is an OTASCO version.

I thought about this thread the other day because I was getting on the interstate to go to work and a first gen went flying by with a canoe or kayak on top! I wasn't quick enough to snap a picture and traffic made it impossible to catch up.

Anyone driving a red first gen with a boat on top through Chattanooga about 8:45 sometime last week?

The foam pipe insulation tears pretty easily. I went to those foam noodles that they make for pools and wire tied them on. Eventually they break down in the sun and weather but I got about 6 months out of them, which is not bad, plus they come in pretty colors. This was pre-Trooper days and on a Jeep Cherokee I had. Eliminated side to side sliding too.
