I'd really like to keep the original trooper tachometer if I can when I swap a diesel into my trooper.

33's 3 inch body lift..3 inch suspension..flip balljoints and spacers. add a leafs.. one piece driveshaft.

On the 4jb1 the sending unit is in the injector pump. Is that the same area on the diesel 86?

If so it would just be wiring I believe.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: The tachometer in a gas-engine Trooper is different from the tach in a diesel-engine Trooper.

Jerry told me the sensors are different, and therefore, the tachometers are different as well, due to the type of signal sent.

I know for certain the connectors are different, with the diesel tach being a slightly larger connector, so the wiring is not just a simple "plug-n-play," unfortunately.

I don't have the connections worked out yet, but that will happen in the next week or two, as I've got to get it done, so the owner can come pick it up.

I'm not sure, I just pulled the tach from a diesel at the yard as i was told that might be a hard to find part without realizing the sending unit was also needed. If you want to pay shipping, I would just send you the tach as i have no use for it personally.

ok well im looking forward to what you come up with. my 4jb1 is incoming today(leavingshippin)
and plan to start soon there after.

i will make a thread for it when it get here.

so any help is appreciated.

so do you think other than the connector does it seem much more difficult. or what are people using for there swaps? i know there isnt many.

would a diesel tach be more useful or research my gas tach to work?

and kevin what is the milage behind the tach you have? i would think i would still need this one over my gas possibly.

Mileage on a tachometer won't matter, as long as it's working.
