1990 Isuzu Trooper Drive Train and Engine for Sale

Postby ToddFaulk » Sun Jan 03, 2016 10:29 pm

Just finished restoring a 1990 Trooper, was a creampuff. My son borrowed it for a night and totalled it. I currently have it on blocks and had the 5 speed Tranny rebuilt, T Case rebuilt, upper end 4 cylinder rebuilt and I am not going to spend 2 years doing it over. I also have a spare ECU I got from Jerry Lemon, also have the front hubs auto locking, 3 good doors and some windows. The Trooper is sitting in Chattanooga Tennessee.
Make me and offer, Im depressed at looking at it.

Went and checked it out tonight. It was very dark but it's rough. I'm not sure if the frame is bent but the inside is gone along with the back door and hood and front fenders. I can go back during the daytime but it's rough. It is certainly worth someone's time but not mine, it will take some work to get it running in a good truck and I bet it will run great! Todd, the seller, is a great guy and is super nice. Let me know if anyone needs me to go grab something.

I saw your vehicle on Craigslist. What are you asking for the tranny? My son's 1991 Trooper is sitting in Nashville with a busted tranny.
If the tranny was out, he would drive down to purchase it, assuming the price is what he can afford.

Actually I think yours had a 4 cylinder and my sons is a v6 2.8 liter. Sorry to bother you. It would have been perfect

Maybe you or someone could tell me if changing the rear axle on a Trooper is a job that anyone with a lift can do
or is a specialist needed. My son's 91 was built for off road. Gets anywhere from 14 to 15 on the road running about 27k/28k rpm. That's a 5 spd 2.8 V6.
Would like to see about changing rear axle to get better mileage. Is your rear axle available? What cost?

"Would like to see about changing rear axle to get better mileage."
The axle will have the same 4.56 gear ratio as yours. The only other gear ratios available are 4.10s which would lower the rpms by about 11% & 4.77s which would raise the rpms by about 5%. To use four wheel drive you must have the same gear ratio in both front & rear axles, so if you change one you must change both to match.
You can lower the rpms by about 3% for each one inch increase in tire diameter, power will also decrease by a like amount. Just make sure all four tires are the same size or you can't use 4wd.
'78 LUV, 1.9, headers, 4-spd, SAS Dana 30 front, Dana 20, SOA rear w/Aussie Locker, 31's, serious body cancer, bought new 12/4/78.
'87 Trooper, 2.3, headers, 5-spd, 31's, ball joint flip, Aussie Locker rear, Superwinch hubs, brush guard w/5.5K winch, needs motor, work in progress.

I did not know about having to change the front also. And his tire size is probably as big as you can fit on it. I really don't know what
gear ratio he has in it. The person he bought it from built it for off road. I just hope it's not the 4.77. Thank you for the quick response

This ad is a year old. I bought the wrecked Trooper and the engine is in my Trooper, now. The interior was already sold before I bought it.
