Not surprising with your crew. Too much going on. Notice how early the retired people booked.

Better check your long range forecast on the budget. Just heard that the Fed budget runs out on April 28th. If a new budget isn't passed in time the gov (including the National Parks) may shutdown. Not sure how this would affect us. Hopefully, Congress will get its act together and at least pass a CR.

Forecast indices still looking great for the trip. I will update in another week and try to provide more details if feasible.

I can't comment on Govt shutdowns. Everything that goes on in that hell hole defies logic, common sense and normalcy. It's impossible to know what will happen.

Cool. Off-roading is clearly not a requirement, although I am sure you can find a seat in someone's truck if you want to try it out. We do spend a lot of time by the fire and around Van's coffee pot. We also tend to hit the shooting range several times during the meet. Some like to hit the water on their canoes or Kayaks.

Aw man. Not gonna have my new toy (2001 rodeo sport) ready for this. Should be a go for next year though.
Current: Non Running Green 2001 Rodeo Sport 4x4 Hardtop. Traded a Ruger 22/45 pistol for rolling chassis. I need a cheap working engine. Radiator and a ridiculous amount of parts sitting inside truck waiting for it to have life breathed into it and tons of TLC.

RIP-/Black 1999 Amigo 4x4 on 35's (rolled in thunderstorm, total loss by insurance company.)

Sold- 1995 Trooper on 33's. Repeated engine trouble after purchase due to disreputable car dealership.

RIP Green 1998 Amigo 4x4 Soft top on 32's. One of the first lifted isuzu Amigo's in Planetisuzoo. Followed Chris Perosi's write up once it hit the internet. Purchased new in 1998 from Dealer. Deceased March 2000, killed by freight train (I was young and stupid offroading, got stuck on train tracks...)

I use sophisticated algorithms that contains various atmospheric indicators and triple cell climatological models. ENSO, PDO and NAO - and where it is in the yearly cycle and where the regional indicators are forecast to be 15 to 30 days out is also thrown into the mix. In addition, if you take in to account regional - specifically local climatology along with moon phase, solar activity you can come to an excellent conclusion. If you like I can teach a class this year on the subject. :albino:

Bullsheet... although it does sound somewhat like a logical explanation

We've got breakfast covered for Saturday morning... what are the plans for Friday nights dinner. :?:

Anybody gonna go kayaking... I'm hooked after last falls trip.

I just signed up for the Land Trust's hike and paddle challenge so would be game for some kayaking - here are some that qualify for this in particular:

http://landtrustcnc.org/2014/the-narrows/ <<- basically what we did last time

http://landtrustcnc.org/2014/uwharrie-river-2/

I'd be open to anything else as well. Saturday would be my personal pick in terms of day as the trails will be more crowded, but again I'm completely flexible.

Marcus and I (and anyone else that wants to tag along) plan on hitting a gold mining site one of the days and since we'll be having a big breakfast Saturday morning, that would be a good way to work off some fat (not that you need to). (no "peace" smiley found) :?

Since you (or anyone else) has more experience than I in the subject, I've been looking at buying this for the trip... good for a beginner? http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/no-limi ... id=1036416

I am debating on whether to bring own the high banker or just rent one of theirs. Also, I plan to being down the gold cube for cleanups. You will LOVE this thing. Best piece of mining equipment I have ever purchased...next to the dredge of course. I can clean up an entire weeks worth of dredge cons in 30 minutes with it. Clean gold down to 50 to 100 mesh without losing a spec.

I'm not that familiar with this make/model, although it seems to get top ratings on any of the sites it's listed on. REI sells a Pelican kayak that's a similar price, although it's more of a recreational one so doesn't have the fishing-related features. All in all probably not that helpful a reply now that I've typed it out. LOL!!

On the verge of not bringing my truck down (hence no camper)...Maybe canceling the trip altogether.

Got my valve cover off today because it' still leaking oil. Last ditch effort is to change out the cam caps. Problem is, can't get them out without taking the CAM out or perhaps moving the cam gear forward a bit. If I can't do either then I'm pretty much screwed because I already removed the top of one of the cap retainers (cam tower) so that seal is compromised even more (maybe clean it as best I can and smear it with RTV and reseal it.

The past two weeks have taken so much out of me because of the truck. I am getting backed up with other high priority stuff.

Signed,
Frustrated as hell.

Not having a truck is no excuse not to go. Sounds like you really need some down time. The stress of trying to get the truck ready and balance work and family can be debilitating.

I have a thought. Instead of killing yourself trying to get the Trooper roadworthy in time, why not walk away from it for a while and just hitch a ride to Uwharrie with Garret? That way you can take some of the pressure off and start addressing some of your "other high priority stuff". If you need help hauling some of your gear (or borrowing a tent or 2), I can help you out. When you get to the campground, I am sure that you will have no trouble getting a ride or finding something to do if you need some time away from Garret. Besides, the ride down with Garret doing all of the driving could be fun . . . Are we there yet?

Thanks guys. I really do need the down time. I need be I can just drive down the CX-5 and tent it (gag! - I am too "movie star" for that stuff anymore) but sitting around the camp fire sounds really good right about now.

I decided to try something. I re-used the cam "plugs" or caps or what ever they are called. I cleaned the front one including the seat (that's all I had time to do tonight) as best I could with brake cleaner and a paper towel, then rubbed RTV on the outside of it as I spun it until it made it all the way around then put the retainer back on and tightened. I did the same with the one back one too (the other will have to wait til tomorrow or Tuesday. I cleaned up the valve cover and will just change out the gasket and the spark plug things. Will fire it up and see if it leaks. It has dye in the oil right now so I should be able to tell pretty quickly. The drivers side will have to wait for sure. If I have no leaks then we are set, if it leaks I may ship it off to the local garage and throw it in their lap.

^^He speaks the truth!^^ You're more than welcome to take my truck out on the trails if you'd like, I'll be doing some paddling and planning on doing at least one hike while I'm out there - probably hike up to top of King Mountain which is apparently the highest point in the forest, sounds like it could be fun!

Thanks Shaggy,
We shall see what my truck wants to do this evening. I got everything put back together without replacing some of the suspect parts. Fingers are crossed!

The weather forecast from two weeks ago is still on track. Fingers are also crossed about this. :)

Yea. It looks like mid 70s during the day and mid 50s at night. Near perfect except for a chance for rain one morning.

I hope everything works out for you.

Started the truck today and took it for a little spin. I don't see any oil leaking where it was. I will give it a couple more days. If it holds I may do the drivers side.
