End of season Uwharrie run 10-13 Dec?

Postby Van » Sat Dec 05, 2015 9:22 pm

Figured I'll try and get my moneys worth out of the season pass.

If anyone else is interested, post up and I'll make my reservation asap.

I'll be out gold panning Thursday/Friday then some trails on Saturday. :D

I was just about to post up and bumped into this - there's an OHV volunteer meeting Saturday night (12/12) so I was planning on being out there to attend this as well as do some trash clean up and get a few trails in. I'm not sure if I'll do Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, but will let you know!

Big fat maybe, but I'd only be able to ride about a half day on Sunday.

I'll be at the usual site Thursday-Sunday morning.

Shaggy, do you remember where Marcus saw all that black sand? I couldn't find it last time and all I remember him saying was that it was past the parking lot???

Gotta finish up my dredge and bring it along, been reading some good stories on where to go. :D

I'll be out Friday (cleanup) and Saturday (just fun) and staying at Arrowhead as well.

As for the black sand, I *think* he said he saw this right before the Flatwoods Trailhead if heading South on Dutch John Road, off in the ravine on the right-hand side where the road turns into a single lane and Green Gap Shores splits off to the left...

I'm not certain, but I also think this would be the area. It was a intermittent stream coming down that right hand side (near the red line).

Good luck and let me know if you find anything! I am sure you will if you can find the place. I sure wish we could join ya.

It sounds like everyone and their mother's uncle will be out on Saturday:

Might be worth getting trail rides in on Thursday or Friday.

Just picked up 6 rib eye steaks and a bag full of baking potatoes. I'll marinate the steaks and Friday (depending on what time Wayne gets there) we can chop up some potatoes and steaks mix in some eggs and have some fajitas with whatever else y'all want in it... Saturday steaks and baked potatoes????

Weather looks perfect. :D

The posts on NC4x4 suggest that the trails on Saturday will be... interesting! I should be there between 9-10a on Friday, pick a trail and we can hit it. :)

Interesting is understatement, lol. From what I keep reading between NC4x4 and all the different Facebook groups going, its gonna be a lot like stuffing a 20 pound crap in a 5 pound bag, lol. I am gonna be out there probably just before or just after noon and stay till about 3.

I'll try and make a few off-season workdays. Traffic jam trails are no fun unless you're just people watchin', IMO.

It's hard to beat 70 degree weather in December which was one of the main motivations to move to North Carolina from New England! I spent Friday doing clean up work then enjoyed a fantastic dinner with Van and Wayne on Friday night, I was glad I chose to give the trails a chance on Saturday as they didn't end up being too bad and made for another memorable day. Van, Wayne and I met up with Lou and got in some trails in the morning:

Around lunch we split up, Lou and I continued to cruise around for the afternoon:

It was great spending time with friends, and yet another reminder of what a special place Uwharrie really is:

Thanks for an incredible season out there everyone!

Had a really great time and a big thanks to Jonathan, Wayne and Lou for showing up. No gold found yet, but I've still got some more to pan through.

After watching 342 one minute clips from the dash cam and narrowing it down to around 7, these are some highlights from the trip... the somewhat crowded trails, Jonathan helping a high centered Jeep break free, some a-hole dirt bikes, meeting Lou at the double parking lot, eagle eye spots something ( I think he even found my prized coffee mug later on another trail) :D and the Jeep at the soup bowl. :D

What a fantastic compilation! Adding a full time dash cam to my Trooper is officially a thing now, which make/model did you install in your Pup?
