Greetings and Salutations! I am living vicariously through your posts on this trip. I regret not being able to make it this time but look forward to the off-season to get my ol' LS going and ready to "rock" again.

MANY thanks to Jerry for being an original "prepper", not for a zombie apocalypse, but for the unfortunate withdrawal of Isuzu from the American small vehicle market. His collection of parts must be awesome, as he had a new OEM heater core in stock for my son Ben's '91 Trooper that we just fixed this week. The sticker that was in the box is so true! How many of y'all sport THIS one on your ZooZoo?

Jerry Lemond sticker.jpg

Y'all keep dry and safe. I look forward to all the pics and videos.

I didn't get many photos at big creek as I was mostly behind the wheel and riding solo this time. Can't wait to see the shots some of the others got at the rock gardens and stuff.

Here are a few I did manage to get

The ol' troop before it's new bumps and bruises.
Image

My rig off down the trail.
Image

Scott, John, Marty and his lady in their sweet Amigo, and Izzy bringing up the rear in his capable cruiser. Most of these trails where very narrow and trees were everywhere. You figured our your rig's exact dimensions realll quick out here.
Image

John's big trooper on one of the climbs
Image

This is one of those shots where you really don't get the sense of scale. This was a pretty steep, maybe 40' elevation change, rocky and wet And it was out of nowhere. So it was pretty intimidating when you rolled up to it. This is the hill that claimed John's idler arm or whatever it ended up being.
Image

Scott acting as big spoon ( ;) ) and helping figure out what's going on with John's steering
Image

Stopped for the repairs to John's center link/idler arm
Image

Back at camp to meet Lorenzo, and we lost the light to try and get a good shot of our rigs together. Even modern day technology and image editing can't really make up no light!
Image

I only ended up with a couple dents in my pass rear door, probably one in the rain rail, but not significant, and I lightly cracked my pass front corner lens. It was slick and rocky and FUN! Can't wait to go back out there. Our guide was great and could spot almost any rig through almost any obstacle. All you had to do was whatever he suggested. Shaggy did some insane lines in the rock garden in his rig and made me look like a chump! :D

We are home! Our 8 hour drive became about 14. A member of our convoy had some drivablilty issues with his Trooper. He got them settled down if not completely corrected. Enough to get home at least.

I had a great time. This trip was much different for me being the 1st time at URE without my boat.

Many thanks to those who purchased the grub and set up the Jerry night. Also to Lorenzo for taking care of the Jerry tribute. It was very nice.

It had been a while since I was last down there. Nice to see old friends and meet some new faces. We had a great turnout.

Finally got home. Thanks Squatch and Hack for your help! You guys are the best!!! Also thank you Jerry for the long distance guidance.

My baby has got problems. Where to start. :(

It's by the grace of God I made it home after our 4 hour layover in northern VA.

She kept throwing codes all the way to my driveway but the hesitation and power loss did not return after the fuel filter swap out off I-95.

Since my tank was almost empty from the trip. I reset the engine codes once again the after I got home. Dropped about 10 ozs of 91% isopropyl alcohol in the tank and ran it for a while. Saturday I added about 5 gallons of high test to the tank. The truck has been running great and I have about 50 miles on it now with no codes being displayed.. I have not been towing but have tried to push it up hills and run the RPMS way up. Next weekend I have to tow the camper to it's winter storage so that will be the next test if I don't have any issues this week with the truck.

If I had to guess, I would think that I got some water in the gas at exit 4 gas station. I know squatch and hack also got gas there but I was reading that sometimes the gas can get contaminated right at the pump! Not sure how but I have read about a couple of instances were this has happened. So who knows.

Oh, so now on to the next "project". I was parked at an angle in my garage because of the way our other vehicles were parked and our garage door hangs down in the middle and you guessed it. I backed into the door handle and it caught my roof rack and bent it all to hell. The garage door suffered about as much. :(

Any ideas on how to bend the tubular aluminum safari roof rack back to normal? The right rear corner is bent inward and the right side is bent outward. DOH!

My mileage on that tank of gas was about 2 mpg less than on the rest of the trip. Squatch said his engine was pinging on that gas. So I think that was a lot of your problem although there is still some electrical issues with those trailer lights.

Yeah, I ordered a new trailer connector and wire harness. :) I also replaced my left turn signal bulb. I cracked the mount trying to put the bulb back in but it seems like some JB weld took care of that. It was just one screw by the way. It was a pain in the butt to remove.

Ugh, that's a bummer!! I'd go ghetto on it with a winch or come along... although someone whose less ghetto than I usually am will probably have some slightly more elegant suggestions. ;)

Ugh, that's a bummer!! I'd go ghetto on it with a winch or come along... although someone whose less ghetto than I usually am will probably have some slightly more elegant suggestions. ;)

Marcus, been there and done that. I rolled my last trooper as you know and it flattened the front of the rack pretty good. The rack you saw on my 02 at Uwharrie was the very same rack. It is screwed and riveted together. If you unscrew and un-rivet the bent pieces you can work them separately easier and get them much straighter
