Last Open Weekend (December 13-14)

Postby shaggydoink » Sun Nov 30, 2014 2:34 pm

I have not determined exactly what my logistics will be yet, but I'm shooting to make a trip out to Uwharrie for the last weekend the trails are all open (which unless something changes are scheduled to close December 15) - I plan on doing a little trail/trailhead cleanup work and attending the Uwharrie Rendezvous meeting Saturday night, the rest of the time I should just be wandering around on the trails. I figured I'd post up in case anyone had an interest in joining me.

I'm REALLY hoping to make it out there that weekend. I get back into the states that week, so it's very possible. I'll probably only do a day trip on Saturday, but I'd really like to be out there with some 'zu dudes.

Looks like I'm actually getting in on Friday night, so I doubt I'll be able to get the rig ready that quick. I'm going to have to come out on some of the trail clean up/maintenance days over the winter and early spring.

No worries - a list of the work days was just posted up here:

And I'm brewing a few trips to some other parts of the state during the off-season as well.

The weather out at Uwharrie this weekend was spectacular!! I spent most of the time picking up trash along the trails, and dealt with a couple spots like this (the graffiti is a scary new trend):

Image

I also had a bit of disagreement with the right-hand wall of the Dutch John Hill climb... oops:

There were a lot of clubs and groups out there, several of which adopted me for periods of time:

And while I got home smelling like rank beer and I'm sure I'll be achy tomorrow, it was an incredible way to close out the 2014 season:

Sorry I wasn't able to make it, but it as a good thing because, the trooper sprung a massive oil leak Saturday.

Ouch Jonathan! How did you manage that one?
Wayne, sorry to hear about your Trooper, figure out the leak yet?
When spring rolls around, I should be ready to help with more of these "trail clean-ups"... Looking forward to getting back out there again. Looks like I might be replacing rear springs in the Rodeo in the meantime. Seems to be "sagging" a bit and the right side spring is bent in front of the axle.... Not happy about that. Trying to decide now if I want to spend the coin and get new HD springs or, hit the bone yards..... Time will tell. :(

I was trying to hug the right-hand wall on the hill climb to avoid a deep rut my rear tire kept spinning out on, but it was a little too vertical for my front tire to grab and... well... <crunch>.

It's all good though, while I take a lot of care to not trash the truck, I built it to drive it so think of this as simply adding some character!

p.s: @ Wayne - give a holler if you'd like an extra set of hands whenever you dig into your Trooper.

Thanks Shaggy for the offer, going to try some AT 205 RE SEAL. I know its probably just some snake oil but if it works even for a short time might be something good to carry for emergency.
