Um...what/where is 'Uwharrie'?

Postby scubamatt » Tue Sep 03, 2013 2:19 am

And how do you pronounce it, so I don't sound like a complete fool when I talk about it?

(I thought 'Uwharrie' was some place in South Africa, then realized all of these people in the USA can't be going there several times a year to go off-roading...Google didn't help much in figuring it out.)

"Uwharrie" is just short for Uwharrie National Forest. It's near Troy, NC. There are miles of OHV trails there from "Mild" to "Wild", a shooting range, campgrounds and even a lake. Great place to get together, tell some stories (lies), do some 'wheelin', some shootiing and, maybe take a swim or go fishing.
Pronounce it, "you-WARR-ee"

Outstanding! Thanks for the clear explanation and directions. That's only about 5 and a half hours driving from my house, too, which makes me very happy. I'll keep an eye out for a meetup that matches my time off from work, I'd love to see some of these people/vehicles in person.

Yup same for most of us in the lonestar, and from us to swede is pretty much as far. Relative to your position in tx or Mn it's 15-20 hours (calculated...) crock'o'poop.

and let's not go getting ourey (oooo-ray) Co confused with Uwharrie either, Cuz apparently good wheeling spots can't be vastly know with simplicated names.
Ada-99 Trooper;3.5 TOD, Luxury, 2inch crank front,+2in calmini springs&spacers rear, 265/70/r17's (axioms)-Wife's whip
Tin Cup-90 Amigo; 2.6 4x4, 5spd, ala mexican special for the time being
Dr.Molly- 94 Amigo; 2.6 2wd, 5spd, 5% smaller goodyear wranglers on 15in snowflakes, predominantly stock, cruiser (& staying minimally modded)
José Rosé-92 Pu't Spacecab; 2.6 2wd, auto, future 16inch steelies, old skool street rubber,
Frank-95 Pu't Reg. Cab; 2.3 2wd, 5spd, T-bar crank and cheap shackle lift... Mild down a bit & sold, but still near & dear.

Some of us have deserts... some of us have mountains... some of us have forests... but what we all share is Mud and Isuzu's.

Now isn't that a beautiful thought?  :puke:
