New 33" tires rubbing lifted Trooper

Postby ducktrooper1 » Mon Mar 27, 2017 8:32 pm

I recently switched from skinny tires to 285/75/16 BFG AT's. The added width of these is rubbing my wheel wells and fender flares, in spite of my 3-3.5" lift and TB crank. This was never an issue with my previous 255/85's. Anyway, I don't want to lift any more so what do I cut and how do I go about without making a mess of things? Any photos or posts will help. Thanks in advance

Turn your tires all the way each way, and look at what is above each of the edges. That ought to get you started. Whether you cut or hammer or both, go a little at a time, test, and repeat until you're not getting any rubbing. Make sure you test some flexed out and turned each direction. You may decide to do a small body lift if the cutting is going to be extensive, or you may need a different wheel offset/width, or both.

No, I switched back to the OEM Trooper 5 spoke rim and tires still rub. They really have some meat on them. I have OME 912 coils in back with 2" poly spacer and approx. 2.5-3" of TB lift in the front. Am trying to avoid lifting any higher b/c I wanting to improve overall handling and road manners since most of driving will be to and from off road spots.

Weird. I have 4" lift with 35x12.5 tires and wheels with less backspacing than stock, basically no rubbing except a little at absolute full compresson. I did have to massage the back of the wheel well and knock that standing seam down, but I wouldn't consider it drastic surgery.
