Falken Wildpeak ATW3 + Stock Steelies = 2nd Gen Trooper Fit!

Postby Gumbeaux » Tue Mar 07, 2017 2:06 am

Some folks asked about my wheel and tire combo.

Decided to do a set of 5 Falken Wildpeak ATW3 tires in 285/75/16.
Mounted them to painted stock Trooper steel wheels.

Without any body/suspension lift, the tires do rub at full lock - otherwise, they seem to ride and drive great.
I'll update every three months, plus when I install my OME lift.

Heres a photo for those interested.

I like the look. Do you get any snow? I would be curious how they handle the fluffy stuff.

I live in south Louisiana. I'm not familiar with this "snow" that you speak of.

That's funny and boy are you lucky.

Snow is best described as very cold solid rain which also helps cause rust on our dear Isuzu's.

Yes, indeed, be Very afraid! It just snowed over 4" in the over-1000' elevations in my area, and I'm close to Puget Sound!

On the other side of the state, my Uncle in Wenatchee was using his snowblower on 3 feet of snow, with more to come!

Never fear, my trusty Trooper with BF Goodrich A/T's has never failed to get me up and out of the steep hill where I live, your setup is even better and you shouldn't have too many issues as long as you're not traveling over the icy hills in Seattle.

Have a nice trip, see y'all in due time!.........ed

Hahaha thanks. I am moving out to Grand Coulee, so it should be an adventure. But I do love it out there.

It's some real purty country up there. You're gonna get some Serious snow next winter, for sure!

Color combo looks great. What paint did you use for those wheels?

i have 1st hand experience w/ an early 2nd gen (92-95) that had 265/75r16 on the same stock steel wheels as yours rubbing the swaybar WAY before full-lock so not sure how you are only rubbing at full lock w/ even wider 285's

I had the wheels sandblasted, then I sprayed it with a Rustoleum gray self-etching primer, then used Rustoleum's Metallic Copper paint.

As far as contact - You got me! I'm not going to complain for sure LOL. I'm going to take pictures when I go to do the lift, control arm swap, and sway bar bushings/endlinks - but as far as I can tell its stock.

These look great. I literally just ordered these yesterday for my 95 Trooper. I got the 265-75-16's, though, as I've run that size since I've owned the truck.

I also live in Washington (Bothell area). You're coming to a great place.

Thanks a bunch - I am looking forward to it!

Hope you like the tires, I'm liking mine so far, but I need to get offroad to see how they do off pavement.
