Some pics of my new Cooper ST MAXX load range E. These are a hybrid between an AT and a MT tire. So far I like them.

Mark,

Good looking tire! Also, looks good on your tow truck. I read some reviews that mentioned this tire tends to wander on the road when new. Have you found any truth to those reviews? Other than those reports, the tire seems to do well in everything else and most likely my top choice when it comes time to buy a set of tires for my 94 Trooper. Please continue to let us know your thoughts when you get some more miles on these tires. Thanks!

So far so good. The weight of the camper has increased the noise a little. But still not bad.

They are heavy!

These are E load range. I just cranked the air pressure up a bit. 50f/55r it seemed to help all way around.

I just installed a new set of 265/70R17 Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX tires on my 1989 Trooper. At 60 PSI I have had no issues but I am experimenting with tire pressures to see what feels the best. So far they are riding smoother than the previously installed BFG Rugged terrains.

here is a picture... I am interested to see how the 10 ply tire behaves when aired down off road.

Why on earth did you use an E load tire on a 1st gen. If it weren't for the camper it would be overkill on my pickup. C rating is plenty HD for a 1st gen. These things are HEAVY. I'll bet it bogs the life out of your 4 banger. The V8 in the truck feels the weight.

60 psi is way too much for that light truck, More like 40 is about right. Tire pressure in E rated is related to load carried. To get the right pressure I weighed my truck and emailed Cooper with the axle weights.

these tires are 7 lbs lighter a piece then the old one so the 4 cylinder is doing just fine. I have been experimenting with tire pressure. 45 PSI has been the sweet spot so far.

While I agree that C load rating is plenty, it is getting hard to find C tires any more, at least in the brands I am interested in.

Thanks Swede, I really hadn't thought about this aspect. Historically I run flotation sizes on my trucks. They are most all C rated. I was looking for E rated for the pickup so didn't even notice. I just checked and these tires only come in C on 4 sizes. All are flotation sizes.

I think the manufacturers are trying hard to replace most all C rated LT's with P metric car tires.

I bought these tires based on budget and availability. I have had all the different load ratings on both of my troopers with mostly positive results. P rated sidewalks are a little thin and I have had to do some trail side tire repairs I don't think would have been necessary otherwise.

Yep just replaced the P metrics on mine with these. I normally run LT C's on my Zu's. No issues. Don't trust P metrics off the street or for heavy hauling.
