2000 Rodeo

Postby LukeSlater » Wed Apr 27, 2016 6:26 pm

Hey guys, I have recently been viewing the forum and I love seeing all the rides and what have been done to do them. So I decided to post my ride. I got an amazing 2000 manual 2wd rodeo for my first car. I haven't done much to it.....yet. I am a little low on money, but I will show what I do have.

I tried to Plasti Dip a few things. Some of those were my front "Isuzu" logo, my gas lid, and a few things inside my car.

Then after that I bought a Westin Light bar. I also got some AVS rain deflectors and an AVS bug shield. That added a lot to the rodeo.

I got a Thrush Glasspack and had that welded on. My Rodeo is a 4 cylinder so it is a little high pitch, but I know I couldn't get a low tone like some people. I like the way is sounds!! It was also pretty cheap!

Finally got installed something that I've wanted for a long time! LED lights. Got these from LED Glow off of Amazon.

Re: 2000 Rodeo

In the next week, I'm going to have my wheels powder coated. Some of the next mods that I will look into are getting a roof rack, installing 1.5in wheel spacers, and possibly getting it lifted. I have a couple of questions though. I would like to put my spare on my roof rack, but I wondering if it might get stolen. Has anyone had any experience with this? Just wondering. Also for getting it lifted, I was looking at Independent's lift kit. I saw that they had shocks and coil springs and such. I was wondering if I would be able to lift my Rodeo with just the basic kit and not have to upgrade anything? Are the Skyjacker springs good quality or would I need to upgrade to the OME springs? Also, I am new with the lift kits; I know that the coil springs lift the back, but what lifts the front? Does Indy expect you to crank the t-bars? If you guys could answer these questions that would be great! Thanks!

Nice Rodeo!
There is a post from a fellow that lifted his Rodeo, 95 I think. He went waaay up with it.
Doing that he also had to add length to shift handles and other things that moved away from where they were to where they ended up.
He bought some kit parts, but fabricated other parts.

When I stumble across that post again, I will link it here.

Regarding having a tire stolen... you could padlock it or otherwise cable lock it in place.
That might just piss off the thief or cause him to give up and look for easier game.
I doubt any thief is going to climb on top of a vehicle to get a tire... unless you make it real easy for them.
That is one reason I stay with steel, plain jane wheels. No attraction, no 'jackpot' mentality.

Hey Doug, thanks for the reply! For my lift, I just plan on lifting it 3in. I am going to buy Indy's budget kit with some locking hubs and have that installed. And yeah I know what you are saying about the roof rack tire. Thanks!

For the lift kit, I was wondering if I needed to get Superwinch Hubs? And also, what purpose do the hubs serve?

Nice Ride - Looks like mine!

For the Independent4X 3" budget lift kit, you don't need to buy anything else. It comes with rear springs, shocks and grease-able sway bar bushings all around and a brake line bracket to allow more axle travel in the rear. Front lift is done by cranking the torsion bars for the independent front suspension (IFS). I think you said this was a 2WD right, so no hubs required. They are for manually locking the 4wd system in the IFS.

Thanks TMan! And thanks for your reply on Protetype's thread. I had researched into the rims and new tires to fit and I didn't want to spend over $1000 to get those so I could install a lift. Do you have any offset in your wheels or are they stock, because I want to hear from someone who has experience with it so they can tell me if there are any cons with it.

I have 265/70 R16s on my truck. No offset. They are the biggest you can fit without trimming the fender wells - lifted or not, it does not matter. Stock was 245/70 R16. I have the same 3" lift you want to put on, so if you look at mine, that's how yours will sit. I only raised my front 2.5 inches. I put Cooper Discoverer AT3s on my truck. They look nice and aren't loud (hum) on the street. I paid like $140 each for them minus a $70 dollar rebate. So like $500 total. You may have 15x6" rims on your truck, I have 16 x 7" stock Al alloys. you could look at putting on some 31x10.5R15's, if you like that balloon look that I do. Need to squeeze them on the 6" rims, but they look cool that way (normally you need 7" rims for the 31's). Those are the biggest you can fit on 15" rims.

Oh I didn't reliaze that was your truck. I saw your post a while ago. I really like it with the lift!! So it doesn't feel like you'll tip over? And also what does an LSE have that an S doesn't? I have an S.

Nah, it doesn't feel high at all. Feels right. It is not radical. LSE has all the bells and whistles. 4x4, 3.2l V6, leather, 16x7" alloy wheels, intelligent suspension, sound system, sun roof, a lot of cosmetic stuff, etc...

Right, maybe I am mistaken - maybe the wheels you have are the 16 x 6". I forget the differences exactly. Its the 6" width that limits how wide a tire you can put on. You could look at a narrower 245/75/16 to fit on a 6" rim, also to fill out the wheel wells after you lift it. Basically you can put a 31" diameter tire on without trimming the fenders. if you want to get into trimming, its not that difficult, there are some posts on how to do that. I love the way the 265/70/16s look, but you will need to trim a bit...

It's just a bracket that extends the travel of the brake line flexible hose so your rear axle can travel up and down with more articulation. It's an easy fix not to have to replace the brake line hose that connects the axle to the chassis.

So do I need to purchase the kit with the lift or will the brackets that come with the kit work just fine?
