Yeah I got sooooo lucky it happened as I turned into the parking lot. I ended up getting the other line from Dallas JDM, he was cool about it. I'm going to have some custom made by a shop that makes brake lines.

I've got about 100 miles on it now. This thing it fun to drive!!! I've got a ton of little things to figure out but its driveable now.
I filled it up with Jet-A at my buddys shop and drove 77 miles then stopped and topped it off(my gas gauge isnt working for some reason) It only took 3 gallons of diesel  Thats 25.6 MPG thats up from 10mpg with the 3.5. And thats with the RTT up there..

I've still got to have an exhaust made for this thing, right now its just the down pipe.

I've been busy at work so I haven't been able to post some of the pics I have, so here they are.

Modding the fuel pump was way easier than I thought it would be, just pulled the pump off and put a peice of hose in it place..

Fuel lines are ran for good now too.

Here is a video of the 4jg2 starting with no glow plugs hooked up and after sitting all night.

Its official now 8)

Your fuel gauge its not working because I assume your Computer its not working right now, and the fuel gauge runs trought it, in my dad's amigo I had the same issue so I just put a ground that was missin from dissconet the three big engine bay plugs, and voila the guage works! I think the ground needed its on the green plug a Black/blue stripped cable

BTW thats a sweeeet Trooper 8)

AWESOME, thanks im going to have to try that. Wiring is not my specialty for sure. Right now only the speedometer and volt meter works, ive got autometer oil pressure, boost, and temp wired up as a temparary solution. How did you wire up the tach??

On a side note, i just drove it up to my parents (50miles) and she did awesome!! Ran 70mph no problem. It seems like the speedometer is closer to the correct speed with the 5 speed trans. Its only 4 mph off, was closer to 10 with the auto..

She is running good so far. I haven't been driving if everyday, too hot out (105) and no a/c lines yet.she runs down the highway at 5psi and when you get on it i can get it upto 10 pounds, i wonder if its safe to run more boost???

That's prity good boost it's hitting ... You just need to make sure and keep the ratio dialed so you don't burn a hole through a piston .. Any idea what factory is supposed to be ??

If i remember right I've heard its 11 or 12 factory. I did turn up the fuel a bit which helped power Alot !!, just a half turn..

Is there a way to know if its burning up a piston?? Definitely dont want to do that! And with my luck i really need to be careful, im going to get an EGT gauge soon..

Chris - I just read this entire post, and wow... You are the MAN. Congrats on the build and diesel swap. I'd love to see this rig some time.

What gears are in the '89? I have a 12 bolt rear axle with 4.56s I need to sell for $100. Know anyone interested?

Take care

Yeah, im going to get one asap. Im going to see if i can mount the gauges on the pillar with a universal gauge pod. She seems to run alright now. I love driving it, so much so that i drove it to work today in the high heat with no a/c.

Hey Steve i may have to take you up on the rear axle offer. Im hoping to find some 4.77's but still i need an older style axle. After it cools down a bit be should have another isuzu meet up.

Well the Tach its kinda tricky actually the gas tach its supose to not work with the diesel motor, but I've seen some working with each other. You can try wiring it, the Injection Pump have a tach sensor, you can connect it to the computer and see what happend, but I have no idea if it will work. in the other hand, if your motor came with the oil pressure sender thats a pretty easy task, just a cable and your dash gauge will work. Do you have your wiring diagram?

Here you can see the tach sender the two cables that run out of the pump close to the motor

Well i've put about 1200 miles in it. So far so good. I bought a tool to adjust me injection timing, it was .010 advanced. It runs really good now, a bit longer to start with no glow plugs after adjusting the timing.

Had a custom exhaust made up on friday, i told them how i wanted it run the same way as factory but they ran the exhaust down the passenger side. They did a good job so no worries. I went with a flowmaster and 2.5" pipe, she is nice and quite until you step on it.

I'm getting a quote for a diesel dash cluster with diesel tach. Also getting fuel filler kneck, fuel filter housing with pump, and glow plug computer.

More to come....

First off congrats on the swap looks great.

You drive it anymore to see what kinda of mpg you are getting?

Did you ever get the tach figured out?

Who did you go through in Dallas to get the motor? I'm in Chicago and having a hard time finding a 5spd pullout locally n else where. I just recently picked up a fantasic shape 99 trooper with only 66k miles cheap but the 3.5 has rod knock #1 cylinder. So I'm looking to dive into a diesel swap if I could find a 5spd pullout....

New... I have a 1986 turbo Diesel trooper 4x4 that runs good, the engine and tranny outlived the body as I am being slowly consumed by rust underneath, got a good deal on a 2001 trooper LS 2wd anniversary edition and I bought it today, I have to change the transmission since 2nd and 3rd gear are not working. I know that my Diesel engine May not be strong enough for such a heavy trooper but I am tempted after reading this blog. Do you think the Motor mounts will match up? I am in the Dallas Fort Worth Area.

Yeah i have been driving it everyday. I've been driving it with my roof top tent on top and i get right at 20mpg, it was 25~26 without it up there. I went 350 miles and put just under 18 gallons in the other day. Also my speedometer is off so its actually a little better than that.

I got my engine from dallas jdm motors, can't really say i would order another from them though.

I seen that one on craigslist, thought about buying it for spares for mine. I'm pretty sure the motor mounts wouldn't line up though. The older diesel probably wouldn't have enough power for the 01 trooper. The 4jg2 is about perfect, i wouldn't want to have any less power than i have now with the 4jg2.
