Little update of project nessesities
Deq is right around the corner so I decided to try my luck hooking the egr system up to my manifold...
I cut down the piece I had widdled off the first manifold that became my doner for the turbo manifold , although tight corders I lucked out and it hooked up relatively easy !! I tapped the egr piece with a pipe tap and screwed in a #6 jic male male nipple then put a 90* onto that and one more 90* into the manifold , knowing it needed a feed tube inside so it would reach the inlet port from the throttle and hopefully disperse evenly I matched up a tube down at the hydraulic parts store ... All I had to do was machine out the 90* fitting screwing into the manifold and press it in plus slightly curve it towards the center and install !! All sounds easy , as I was removing the fuel rail hold down bolts one of the tabs broke its weld , that sucked because it was trying to twist on the fuel rail itself ( not good at all) , I finally was able to get a wrench on it enough to break the bolt loose ... Next problem , as I popped the fuel rail up removing the injectors out of the intake the left front injector lost its plastic O ring retainer , and it dropped all the way in , lucky the manifold was coming off .. The old fashioned flexible grab claw thing saved me , it reached right down on top of the valve and grabbed it , I was happy it was saveable too !! Quick inspection of the injector O rings , although they looked crusty they where still soft and pliable... I made sure and lubed the ports when it went back together with a noncoroding grease stuff ... While I was messing around drilling and taping the hole in the manifold one of the other fuel rail tabs decided to bust off too , I fired the welder up again and reattached it and in the process found a small pinhole on the very bottom of the feed (intake runner) pipe so I put a small weld over it and then it was just about ready for assembly again !!
First attempt to screw in the fitting with the angled tube it immediately hit the inner wall of the plenum so I had to straighten it out some , I liked how it was because it was just about centered one in place ... it still grabbed a little as I screwed the fitting in but with a bit of forced I got it tightened in and pointed towards the middle of the intake ...
The last of the assembly went much better than the removal process (I was kind of surprised how corroded up everything seemed to be , possibly some degreaser I used a while back) ..
Pretty much factory location , next was to see how it worked and if the tube would be big enough for flow (I wanna say it's 5/16 which is roughly have the size of the original tube) ... After starting it up and noticing how nice and smooth it ran I plugged in my obd2 Bluetooth tool and reset the insufitiant flow code and headed off for the freeway .. Gotta say it was strange and bewildering not seeing my ce lit up
It stayed off the whole way home but I stopped to grab some dinner and as I pulled out to the street I noticed the light was on... Crud !! I linked back up to see what code set , po303 , number 3 cyl misfire ?? I started thinking if the tube possibly to close to that intake runner ... I reset it again and drove the rest of the way home ... This morning I had a bunch of parts running to do so I waited to see if it was a fluke , well the light came on again , I checked to see what set it , same po303 .. I guess the good part is that the egr system is happy (gotta stay positive)
Tonight before heading home I pulled #3 coil curious if oil had leaked into the plug well , nice and dry , the plug itself didn't look bad slightly brown soot on it , I pulled #1 to compare and they both looked identical ... Last test was to switch the coils , I also checked there gap , they where tight for the feeler gauge .038 , I opened them both up just a little ... I think #3 plug was slightly tighter on gap ... Drove home without a cel so I think it'll be good for deq !! I almost think m the fuel mileage has gone up which is crazy !! If it does I'm gonna be sad to disconnect the egr system again , the down side is I can tell it's effecting the mixture under boost some ...
Sunday we have an Isuzu meet up , I'll get a good idea on mileage improvements if any ... Looking like several guys are going this year
I'll get lots of pictures !!
