How to post avatar img

Postby trooperbeliever » Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:10 pm

I can't figure out how to attach an avatar pic. It says it needs to be less than 6kb and less than 80x80 pixels. When I get it down to 20x20 pixels it is still 11.6 kb.
can anyone explain how to get an avatar?

Thank you
Caleb

Is the file your trying to use a .jpg? Those typically much smaller in Kb than a .gif

if you use an online uploading service like photobucket or flikr, you can choose what size you want them to be. its really really easy. i use photobucket.
otherwise, you can use paint to stretch them, or if you have any better photo programs.

I'm not a dummy and rather computer savvy, but I am having a bear of a time posting my pictures from Flickr. Anything different from them than photobucket?

yes photo bucket is easer because it gives you the image code that you dont have to copy and past the link.

do the photos that we post on here have a time limit? i went back into my build thread and i saw that most of my photos are not there any longer. in it's place is a small rectangle with a red X and the word "image". are they lost forever now or is there a way i can recover them.
note: my photos on here were uploaded and downloaded (hope those are the right terms) using FOTKI.

thanks for any help

john

John,

That generally happens when a) you posted the photos on a remote host (like photobucket, imageshack, etc.) and b) they have been moved or deleted from that site (or the site changed the URL to those pictures, i.e. same as moved them). This is one of my gripes about using remote hosting.

If you used the "Attach file" method, this should not happen.

aren't all photos here on a remote site? also, i'm pretty sure that i use an "attach file" method offered by FOTKI. any other possibilities?

If you used the "attach file" method offered by FOTKI, they're on the FOTKI site. That's "remote" from this site.

If you used the "attach file" method HERE, they're not "remote". They're on this site. And, this forum will create thumbnail images that expand to full size when clicked--without leaving this site. Sorry, it's "Upload attachment" not "Attach file".
