Honda civic with Timing belt noise?

Postby Emmact » Tue Dec 27, 2016 4:45 am

Hello, a friend asked me to look into his Honda civic. He recently had the timing belt changed and the car started making a noise. I did a little google search(Still haven't seen the car myself) and found that the idler or tensioner pulley might be too tight. It seems to be a common problem following a Timing belt replacement, but I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience and it turned out to be something more serious. I have no experience with Honda's so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Never having done this on a Honda, I'm not speaking from any experience, but having done several on Isuzu's, there's no way that I can see where it can be installed too tight. Maybe the idler pulley or pulleys and the tensioner were re-used, (bad idea) and the new belt being it's not stretched is putting more strain on the pulleys or tensioner. Just saying!

If that is the case then it should be a simple fix. Thanks for the advice. :D
