Sad day coming.

Postby itsmehb » Tue Jan 12, 2016 10:32 am

I always wanted a corvette ever since I saw the first 53 come off the show room floor. Never could justify the cost when raising my family but still had dreams in the back of my head. The day came finally in 2004 when at the age of 68, I could finally justify buying one. Bought a beautiful spiral gray 2003 coupe with just 4000 miles on the clock. It was the previous owners garage queen and it became my garage queen. I continued the previous owners care and never drove it in the rain. It became my sunny day cruiser, and regardless of the temp. the top remained off. Well, now the time has come, that I never thought would, and that is the vet, my dream car, has become a liability instead of an asset. Some buyer is in the process of buying it, sight unseen, in NC. Soon it will become a memory like all my previous cars. You guys know where I'm coming from. Your all car guys and you never forget.

Its the sad reality of corvettes that by the time you can justify owning one, you are no longer a good candidate to own one. My father dreamed of the split rear window in his youth and finally bought a 2008 new. He thought it was a really nice, fun, fast car, until he needed back surgery in 2009. After fusing everything together, he no longer bent as well as he used to and thought he was floundering getting in and out of it. He finally set up a video camera and recorded himself getting in and out of it. Once he reviewed the footage, he decided it was time to sell. It was a quick year and a half with it, but he enjoyed it and I like it for the few miles I put on it. He ended up retiring to a Cadillac, although he selected a CTS-V so it's still faster than damn-it.

I'm sorry to hear that you are turning a page in your dream car, but maybe this will open up a door for another dream. Good luck with your transition

I guess I lowered my standards and bought someone else's dream car. Turns out been had better taste than me.

Sorry to hear you selling your ride. I hope you enjoyed it and you continue to enjoy the life somehow.

Cheers.

Thanks to all for the inputs. Buyer called today and said the moneys on the way, so I guess she'll be gone soon. I'm thankful at my age I'm still here and active and interested enough to pursue all life has to offer. I still intend to finish up my 89 RS. I don't know what it is about that Isuzu, but I find myself reaching for the keys when going out and choosing it over my new Honda.

DAMN, The guy backed out. So, destiny rules, either another buyer shows or I get to keep it. I've come to accept, either way will be ok for me.

Now I keep thinking about that every time I get in and out of the GTP. Not crawling out yet... but a definite "controlled fall" getting in it.

Well she's gone. Guy that backed out, called a few days later and said he wanted it. Just got finished delivering it to the transportation semi. Had good company on the truck. A 1937 cord, a vintage Mercedes, and an exotic Italian sports car, all fresh from Barrett Jackson on there way to there new owners.

At least you know she went to a good home.

Couldn't snap any pics of that Cord?

Didn't get any good ones. This is best I could do. Driver (lady) told me it was a 1937.

HA! I knew you had some... Those things are awesome. Absolutely gorgeous, and some great tech for the day.

I just added Cord to the Powerball car list. And Duesenberg.

i had to say farewell to my s2000 a few yrs back. i got into a terrible wreck and it couldn't be fixed and i didn't have money to buy another one. i put a bullet into the front of stacey and watched as the scrap yard crushed her...it was a feeling of empty sorrow and like i had lost a close friend

Hope you came out of the wreck OK. I considered several cars before deciding on the vet. In the end the final 2 were the vet and the S2000. I think what finally swayed me to the vet was the torque was available at a lower RPM. Seemed the S2000 had to be over 4 grand before it came alive. All in all it's a great car and replacements are getting very hard to find and the price is going up along with the availability.
