Santa Brought me a new Daily Driver!

Postby Tatohead » Wed Dec 30, 2015 7:55 pm

Picked up a new (to me) Hyundai Sonata. I've really like the design of this generation, and the price was unbeatable.

HOWEVER, this one's got a pretty freaking cool secret inside!

Nice! Wait... They sell those with manuals? Almost seems odd to see anything new with a stick.

It's a 2011. 2012 was the last year produced, but they're ultra-rare. I bought this one in LA and drove it home to Idaho.

My family's turning into a Hyundai family. Wife started it with a Santa Fe 5-6? years ago. Daughter had a '12 Elantra and just traded for a Tuscon. My other daughter just took delivery of a new Santa Fe. Now the wife's all hot in the britches for a new one (gotta throw a wet blanket on that idea!). They've been good cars, and I don't really like anything new these days.

I like that body style on the Sonata. A friend of my daughter got one when they came out. Loved it. Then traded for a Challenger RT, kept that for a year then traded that for a new Sonata this year. It has whatever Hyundai calls their collision avoidance system, adjusts cruise control speed to match traffic and stops the car.
Freaky.

I have a 2010 Elantra and like it in summer...Had to buy the Amigo for winter. The Elantra (aka Flipper) is horrible on ice and snow. Hubby had to come pull me out of the snow 3 times my first winter trying to drive it. I grew up in Minnesota and I do know how to drive in this stuff, but when the car slides it is just too light to hold the road. I wanted a manual but they are really hard to find. I thought about converting the Amigo from auto but I just don't have the time, skills, or that kind of money to pay to have it done. My first vehicle was a 1973 Ford F150 that had a 3 on the tree. That was a fun truck to drive.

Well, the Sonata is so, so cool, but never lived up to it's MPG expectations. It's for sale now:

I replaced it with a Chevy Cruze Eco 6M
