Got the bearings, seal and shims ordered for the rear pinion.
Brayden bought a car saturday so i have my GTP back. 2003 Cadillac CTS. He got it from a guy in Oklahoma City that buys them at auction and flips them. A lot of red flags there... but he loves it and he paid for it..
It had a clunk in the shifter. Found out that's pretty common on the CTS. Bushing on the shifter rod wears out and falls off. I cut some old fuel line the length of the missing bushing, split it and mashed it in around that pin.
Also noticed a valve cover leak (seepy leak) and another leak from somewhere in the front of the engine (more than seeping...) He wanted to go ahead and tackle the valve cover gaskets yesterday. That ended up being a lot easier than either of us were expecting. It's the 3.2 V6 and it's much easier to work on that the 3.5 in his old Trooper. Worst part of working on the Caddy is it's so low to the ground, my back doesn't like that crap.
When Brayden's Focus got hauled off it had my Innova code reader in it.... bye bye code reader.... State Farm hauled it to their lot in Gainesville. I wasn't going to drive to Gainesville to fetch it. And as soon as it went away both of our cars started throwing codes... of course.
I got one of those cute little code readers that have blue teeth. And the Torque Lite app for my phone. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251488093341?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
Dang thing works great! Of course I didn't read any instructions... but it was so easy to set up and pair with the phone. And the interface in the app isn't bad, It does way more than I need it to do.
The Mighty Wife's Maxima has been throwing a code for a week or so. She said the check engine light went off when they were coming back from OKC. Checked it and it showed a code for the MAF sensor. Cleared it and it hasn't come back... I've got some MAF cleaner somewhere, if the boys didn't use it up as starter fluid....
The GTP is throwing a code for the catalytic converter, can't remember the code #'s... But that fits with the stupid noise that's been driving me nuts.
Check engine light wasn't on in Brayden's Caddy but we checked it anyway. It showed 7 codes...
On the GTP and the Maxima, when the app showed the code definitions it would show the generic code definition and then the manufacturer specific definition. on the caddy it would show definitions for EVERY manufacturer except GM... cleared them all and then checked again after changing the gaskets and him taking it for a spin. Then it showed 2 codes for O2 sensor heater. I told him to go ahead and save up for 4 new O2 sensors... He gets paid monthly now, he's adjusting..
He did say that it ran better after we changed the gaskets. He thought it ran great before... You have to pull the upper and lower plenums to get the valve covers off. The big O rings between the two plenums were looking pretty flat... quarter of a million miles on them...
