It's been tough lately but I sneak in time on the Datsun..Things like the steering wheel I just bring home and sit down on my front porch and start hand sanding and repair….

oh, that's pretty. I need to do that with the steering wheel for the Fairlane. may practice on the truck wheel.

You use Water Weld to fill? I know some of the guys at the Fairlane Club use that but others at the Zone used something else, can't remember what it was.

I think it was PC7. You clean the wheel to get all the old junk off it then you file the cracks in a V notch. You mix the epoxy and fill in the cracks. I just tried to keep it as clean as possible which wasn't too hard. Then you let it setup. I got it all sanded, filed, cleaned and repaired in one night then final sanded the next night. The wheel is now at the painter to get sprayed the body color. Really not that hard if your just repairing cracks. My original wheel was junk and chunks missing from it..so I found a decent wheel in Texas and repaired it. I was very happy with the results so far and sending a wheel out for "professional" restoration was insane cost wise.

That turned out brand new by the looks of it ... I've messed around with the different putty applications for high heat or just patching , I think they are made by Jb weld Co. , there is a water patch one to supposedly good to 2 or 300 psi ( not sure I'd wanna test that out though).. Also I have a an of pre mixed metal mender stuff in a can I wanna test , it's supposed to be able to take high heat and be machinable ...

How's the progress on the truck ?

Its set up so nice...has a fresh 1953 Mercury V8 flathead with Edelbrock heads and a single 4bbl. Thats adapted to a C4 automatic and 9" rear. Has disc brakes up front. Its 12v but the stock gauges have a drop so they all work. It is very stock inside and out. It runs great and sounds like it should.

Yeah..they are all wooden body..roof all the way down and to the back..Plymouth took it further and had wooden floors!
Just spoke to a guy that has probably one of the rarest woodies..a 1940 Willys woodie wagon…He was checking my 38 out to see how the hardware looked..He is missing some of his. I think they built like 10 of those wagons at Willys? Talk about big bucks!

So a good friend that is into Ramblers as much as me puts a post on FB asking if anyone wants to buy his 60 Rambler 2 door wagon project….Of course I had to take a look..not that I need ANOTHER project with the Datsun and VW but I hate to pass up a great deal..these 2 door wagons are pretty rare and a dry straight one thats complete is tough to come by (plus I have a weird thing for Ramblers and wagons). He just wanted to unload it so I really had no choice (what I told my wife)…What made the decision easier is that I have a lot of Rambler parts for these cars and I have a nice Turbo 2.3 Ford and T5 trans sitting in my shop just waiting for a project like this. So I told myself that the Datsun will be done within a month or so. The VW will get buttoned up about 2 months later. The Datsun will be sold eventually and then the Rambler will get finished up…Thats what I told myself anyways lol...I swear its a sickness.
