Forgotton SUV'S

Postby itsmehb » Fri Jan 13, 2017 7:04 am

I don't know how many of the members here saw Car and Driver's November article on vintage SUV'S. They were basically commenting on SUV'S that are becoming collectable. No mention anywhere in the article anything about Isuzu's, as if they never existed. I had to respond, so wrote a letter that was printed in the February issue. At least now there aware that we exist. May have to click on picture to enlarge it

Good job Harry. For some reason, Isuzu has always seemed to be "the red headed stepchild". My understanding was that way back, Isuzu sued a popular off road magazine for something like 240mil and won. Supposedly, they all blackballed Isuzu after that. Dennis

Dennis I think you are thinking of the Consumer Reports deal.
These links have write-ups and pics of most anything you ever will do on a 2.6 Isuzu. Engine, brakes, suspension, interior, you name it! Enjoy!

Either could be true, but one thing is for sure: Isuzu was, and still is, the red headed stepchild - even before they stopped selling them in the US. Dennis

My take HB is they will become collectible and recognized at some point. I think the VX is already there. I think the same for the turbo Impulse. Ignoring Isuzu might actually help the process. The fact that we have so many trucks out there that can be bought cheap, built to purpose relatively inexpensively, and in a lot of cases driven daily, helps. Also a diehard enthusiast community that knows what they are doing and have been doing resto-mods before the term was invented. I get questions and positive comments on the Troopers every time I'm out and I hear the same thing from other owners. While we don't show up at Barrett Jackson, pricing has been going up and the nice ones sell quick. Problem with that is the days of buying a 1000 dollar first gen that is running and shifting might be coming to an end. I'd actually like to see us stay the red headed stepchild for as long as we can...or a least until I find a nice 2 door LWB cheap
