So I took a long hiatus...

Postby bigpoppax2 » Tue Nov 15, 2016 8:16 pm

Between not driving the Passport and getting laid off and looking for a new job I haven't been on here in a while.
Well I have a new job at an engineering firm, but no company vehicle. So I am daily driving this:

Image

Yeah, it gets great gas mileage. The tires are awesome when it's cold and it's sat all weekend without being driven.
But, it's paid for and the insurance is really cheap.

I have plans on wearing the LTB's out and getting a somewhat more street friendly tire like a BFG all terrain. I also found a great deal on a 1998 Passport 5 speed locally. My auto will be coming out and the 5 speed going in. So, at some point in the future I will have a Tera Low geared t-case off an Auto for sale. It is an older t-case out of a 1994 so it is a fully manual case, no push button on the dash.

I'll be hanging out more often, my new job affords a whole lot more spare time than the former career I had. It's good to be back in an Isuzu again.

I remember your old trooper about 10 years ago at uwharrie. Your boys have got to be just about men by now! Good to see you back around.

Hack and I were camping the last couple of days. I actually wondered aloud at the campfire what had become of you. Last we spoke you were looking at moving our way. Welcome back.
These links have write-ups and pics of most anything you ever will do on a 2.6 Isuzu. Engine, brakes, suspension, interior, you name it! Enjoy!

Well that time I was looking at moving up your way was with my old company. They laid off 1500 people, mostly the experienced people.

So I am still in Morgantown WV. Loving my new job, I really fell into it. It's an electrical engineering job where they were looking for someone that had a natural gas background. Natural gas is what I've done for the last 15 years, and I just happen to have an electrical engineering degree.

I need to try and make it back to Uwharrie in the Spring.

To cool! Glad to hear you're well all in a Zu. My bfg AT's have been on my Trooper for about 5 years I'd guess and they are just getting tired. Ill be going back to the same tire as well.

Take care

Welcome back, Joe. Glad to hear you got the job situation worked out.

You'll probably notice that many of the oldtimers aren't active. The big news that you may have missed is that Tad sold the site. Other than that, same old stuff, only this time it was Ssiggy instead of Smiley rolling his truck at Uwharrie.

I have done my best to keep up with people. I speak with Andre, Tad, Jerry, Mark, and every now and then I'll have a Rubo conversation.

But, I've not posted on here in years just where life took it's toll. Kids in their teens and watching their sports and keeping up with work....

I need to get with Tad and find out where the articles went.

Yeah, I could have been knocked over with a feather when I was told I was laid off. I gave that company 15 years, moved my family across the country three times, and had climbed the ladder from a piss on to the general superintendent.

I really thought I was more than a number. Not so.

Still the supercharged 3.2, but soon to be a manual as opposed to the automagic transmission that's in it.

I saw your sig, I'll be looking into that build you've got linked.

Postby lorenzo816 » Mon Nov 21, 2016 3:13 pm

JB, either that was on purpose or one of the best typos I've ever seen: "auto-magic"

yeah man, if you remember Bryan from RVA, Anubis was his planet name, his coilover front SAS second gen with leaved SOA rear was kinda what I was shooting for since most everyone else had leaves all around or leaves in front and regular coils out back or vice/versa I wanted a decent hwy rig and capable offroad machine. The 44 out back didn't last long with those 37's and I couldn't see swapping in a dana 60, or a 14 bolt boat anchor or an isuzu 12 bolt (lack of gears and options/support honest truth) so the fzj80 was the ticket and had disc brakes!
Its a little tall but couldn't avoid it with the front suspension being able to cycle and get a decent up/down travel for 12" total. If you make it back out to Uwharrie or even the Flats one day in NC, let's go wheel. Oh and no BS, i drove to Harlan and wheeled it and drove home - no trailer. Even did mason jar with the club. :) Held up nicely!
