Why I hate craigslist...

Postby Sags » Mon May 12, 2014 1:11 am

Browsing local craiglist for some rims to fit on the Rodeo.

So many people on craigslist put up ads with NO details at all in them. I've clicked through several ads that have no more details then "16" wheels for sale". C'mon people, what bolt pattern? what width? aluminum or steel? what size tires are on them? what condition are the tires? what size?

Sorry, just sick of replying to every ad asking questions to get details that you would think they would put in the ad to begin with.

I don't get how people can be so lazy when they are trying to SELL something...I see it on a lot of other forums classifieds, too...a short, nearly worthless description written in awful text-speak, and a "can txt pics" instead of taking 2 minutes to attach photos to the ad and explain what exactly they are selling, listing the specific info that THEY would want included if they were buying the same item.

I'll second this post for sure. If someone doesn't have enough sense on how to market there item, I usually pass till I find someone who does. I sometimes market travel stays, but I'll never use craigslist. To many scammers.

What I hate is when you email them and never get a response. And then assuming the item sold it returns after it expires up for sale again!

Craigslist is a magnet for...IDIOTS!!!!!!! Unless I'm seriously scrounging for something, I don't bother with ads that lack details. Any deal that seems too good to be true (not the "free stuff" scams), one has to consider as a crapshoot and that it's already gone. What the heck, try them anyway. As for selling, I'm brutal. I usually sell cheap for a quick turnover, but I only give them a half hour to be here. I tell them the time and tell them the next person WILL get the item. Works for me. Hey, I got my Spacecab off Craigslist! Of 30 people who emailed the seller, he decided he wanted ME to get it. Dennis

On the flip side, if you can ID something from a picture, sometimes other folk's laziness can result in a real bargain for you.

My favorite is misspellings. Poor buggers can't figure out why no one is calling about their cool "toyoda" and drop the price through the floor. Then it is time to swoop.

Edit: I misspelled the word misspell. Classic.

I sold custom work benches for a little while. Had someone email me asking about them. I replied the same day. Didn't hear back from them for almost a month. Their reply was as if they were replying right away as if nearly a month had not passed. I replied back and told them that at this rate the emails back and forth will go a several months before we finally close the deal. Told them kiss off after they gave me the "we're just soooo busy" line. Geez. No one is THAT busy.

I had another email me saying he wanted to buy one for sure so I go ahead and build it in a day and tell him it's ready. Gives me the run-around for a couple weeks about how busy he is and can't come and pick it up. Told him to kiss off too. Didn't appreciate building this bench and then having it taking up space for weeks, basically preventing me from building another one.

A lot of ads here in Tx, the words sale and sell get miss used. Somebody wants to sale a car. It's used so much, sometimes I think I'm wrong thinking they really want to sell, not sale there car. Like I said earlier in this post, these type ads I will usually pass on. Hey dip, your car is for sale, therefore you are selling it.

You have this everywhere not just craigslist, I have seen some of this same stuff at community yard sales.
"Tyres for sell" funny enough tires is not spelled incorrectly if you are in the UK or Australia, but that spelling is odd to see in the US.

What it all really comes down to is LCD (Lowest Common Denominator).

Add read "Harley for sale".No picture only a phone number.
I was intrigued so I called and asked the guy what kind of Harley he had for sale.
He replied "Black" .I asked how much , he replied 5K. I asked for the address and it turned out to be 5 minutes from my home.
I drove over and there in the barn under a blanket was a 2 years old FLHS .
I said, "You want to sell this bike for 5K". He said yes, I loaned my son 5K A year ago and had him sign the bike over to me.
He has a bad habit of drinking and driving and I was afraid he was going to kill himself or somebody else on that thing.
He needed 5K for a lawyer to fight his latest drunk driving charge and I wanted him off the bike.
He said his son was about to get out of jail and he wanted the bike gone and his 5K back before he got out.
I told him it was worth a lot more than 5K and he said, thats what I got into it, I just want my money back.
I paid the man and rode the bike for the next three years.
Sold it for 12K when I needed a down payment for a house I was buying.
My definition of a good deal = both parties would do the deal again

Two ads that I saw recently:

2) "for sale, extra large 5 gallon gas can" HUH?

Many people assume that ANY lawnmower engine is a briggs and Stratton engine. It's just like any airplane smaller than a DC-3 is a "Piper Cub". Then you add the CL factor. Dennis
P.S. because I peruse CL mainly for mowers, one of my favorites is "runs good, won't start" ????????? :D

Eh. If I had the time to snag that and get it on the road, I would prolly stick with the inline 6. The truck I am looking for will see service about 10 times per year hauling wood, grapes, farm equipment and winery equipment locally...pretty much what that thing was made to do.

Brad, what are you doing this weekend? Wanna road trip out to La Pine with $1000 and see if this will follow us home?
