Oil?

Postby Cree » Sat Mar 05, 2016 12:33 am

I have a 2000 rodeo 3.2 liter engine with 170,000 miles on
It and I was advised to use mobile 1 turbo diesel 5w-30 motor oil,is that correct info or even a good idea?and if it is what filter would I use then, the type of filter it normally takes with regular oil?

It won't make any difference to the filter what oil is in it, so just use whatever you've been. Some good-quality filters are Wix, Mobil 1, Napa Gold (same as Wix). Can't recommend use of Fram unless it's one of the higher-end filters.

It might also help to use some decarbonizer in the fuel. Gumout Regane has a higher level of carbon solvent PEA (aka polyetheramine) than Chevron Techron, which is a very good carbon-cleaner.

The hi-miles cleaner has a top-end lubricant which can't hurt!

Use this periodically, along with the diesel-rated engine oil, and it should help keep your engine's innards clean.

Any quality diesel-rated oil will have a higher level of cleaners, Mobil 1 is one of the best oils around, in general. I'm running the non-diesel stuff in all my rigs and it's been working out OK so far. But none of mine have the carbon-buildup problem such as the later ZuZu engines have.

Run a synthetic if it's in the budget, but even the non-synthetic diesel oils (such as Rotella) are good-quality. I certainly wouldn't say anything bad about the Mobil diesel-oil, for sure!

Seems like we're seeing a recent flurry of troubleshooting questions in the TEST section. Wonder why that is...

Well because it says test question and if I wasn't a member of the site and new like I am then I would assume that would be a good place for some one who doesn't know to test a question....

Well, looks like you passed the test!

BTW, welcome to the Planet!

Maybe one of the mods could move this discussion thread to the relevant forum. In lieu of that, just do a follow-up post in the Drivetrain forum with your evaluation of the oil used, etc.

You could also post a few pics of your ride in the "New Members Introduction" forum, we Luv to see more pics of ZuZu's!

Cheers.........ed
