Keep blow 10AMP AC Fuse

Postby Mhartwig » Tue May 09, 2017 1:51 pm

I have been able to get cold air from the AC, so I know the compressor works. However, I am constantly blowing the 10AMP AC Fuse. Most of the time it blows immediately when turning on the AC. Any ideas on what/where to check?

Typically that is caused by a bad compressor clutch.

Disconnect the wire from the compressor and see if it still does it.
Original owner of a 1993 Isuzu pick up, 2.3 engine, 5 speed with power steering and air conditioning. All original except the radio (still have factory radio).
It's cheaper to fix what you have than to buy someone else's problems.

I had that happen on my '94 Trooper. Turned out the wire to the compressor clutch was rubbing against the compressor frame and the insulation had chafed through. Direct short to ground. Check the lead from the clutch back to the loom and make sure the insulation is intact. Hopefully that's your problem and not the clutch which is a PITA to replace... Good luck!

Not sure if you are talking the compressor fuse or the ac blower fuse (which will also shut down the compressor). I've had both issues previously.

Fuse to compressor - I had had a front end collision with a deer and the harness had gotten pinched. Had to track down with wiring diagrams and multi meter, and replace some shorted wires.

AC Blower fuse - The blower has been replaced and the aftermarket connector literally melted and was shorting out. (I run ac all the time, it's the South!) The pics are no longer on my server but the thread is here: http://www.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=71241

Thanks, Ill follow the wire and maybe get a new relay as well. It is the compressor fuse.
