Hi all.

Just got check engine code p0440. Google search suggests:

Possible Causes of P0440 Code

A Leak in the System
Faulty Purge Solenoid (This is the valve that lets the fumes into the engine)
Faulty or loose fuel cap
Faulty or Loose NVLD (This is the sensor that senses whether the system is working or not)

Less Common Causes

The Computer
Leaky Fuel Tank
Bad Charcoal Canister

So, A new purge solenoid is just 20 bucks or so so I'll replace it and see what happens. Anyone know where this part is located? looked but found nothing.

Also, what is an NVLD???

Vehicle:
Isuzu Rodeo 2001 3.2L V6

Thanks!

You can test the solenoid with a meter, its easy.
if it shows resistance its probably good, if it shows infinite resistance its bad.
With my experience its always been a cracked or loose vacuum hose.

If the purge valve leaks, (dirt, dryness or defect) The solenoid part can function perfectly and the valve is still malfunctioning.

If you can blow through the valve from either side, It's junk!

Yes that is also true.

But if you cant blow thru either end and have an open coil its bad also.

Most of the time its a cracked or loose hose in the system.
