Figured its been over 10 years since the good old days when ISUZUwharrie was organized on the 4x4Wire Forums and now the PlanetIsuzoo Forums. So I figured it would be only proper to start off this year with a quote (slightly edited to reflect this years dates) from sir Smiley himself back in 2004:

[Cue the opening theme from '2001 - A Space Odyssey']

;
;
;

Ever since that very first 4x4 emerged from its inaugural test-romp through the primordial ooze, humankind has been divided into two distinctly different groups… Those that prefer pavement, and those that don't. --- This invitation goes out to all of you who fall into the latter category…

>>>>>>> The 2014 ISUZUwharrie Spring 4xFun-Run! <<<<<<<

Where? --- The UWHARRIE NATIONAL FOREST - near TROY, NORTH CAROLINA

When? --- APRIL 23 - APRIL 27, 2014

That's right gang, the trails of U-know-wharrie are calling-out to you again!

Despite what you may have heard, this IS NOT exclusively an Isuzu/Mitsubishi thing (although that IS how it originally got started) …

Since not everyone can own an Isuzu or Mitsubishi, but almost all of the off-roaders that we've ever met were good-and-decent folk, we figure that we might as well invite ALL 4x4 make and model owners to come join us! --- `Cause that's just the kinda guys and gals we are.

So, how`bout it? --- Who's 'IN' this time?

A couple things.

1.) Keep in mind to my knowledge the firing range still isn't open. It may or may not be open by the time the trip rolls around, I am guessing towards the may not. I will be talking with Deborah/Terry to see what the plans are for this.

2.) Updated trail map for 2014:

3.)Repairs have been done to the ledges on Daniel so your "higher difficulty" options are limited trail wise.

Thanks, Eli. I think the weather put them behind. The photos I saw from Feb looked like they still had a lot of work. See the thread on the range. Please keep us informed so we know how to "pack".

OK, I am officially out. :(

Once again tried to reason with the ex this weekend with no luck. I promised to take Kylie camping somewhere locally since she was so bummed out about not being able to go.

If anyone wants my site let me know and we can work out payment, if not then I will get a refund and it will be released for the public to have a shot at.

PM me if interested in site 37

I know a lot of people don't have the ability to make it out to URE as easily and frequently as I do so I almost didn't post up, but the April work day coincides with ISUZUwharrie (Saturday, 4/26) and I'm planning on breaking away from the fun for a few hours to lend a hand - if anyone else is interested in helping drop me a PM. Thanks!

FYI: Mckenziedg has taken over my site. I tried calling Janet, but the number I had for her doesn't work. ELI, DOUG, or JOE: Could one of you make sure and let her know that this is ok if anyone should ask.

Also Hack (Mario) has my cell number if there is any problem feel free to call me.

I took over Mike's site which means that site #16 will be unoccupied. If I cancel the reservation there is a fee, which I don't want to pay, so I'll hang onto the reservation for another week or two in case any other Planet members need a site and we can work out a payment.

If I can get my truck back together we are going to try to get there. Does site 16 have electric?

Yep sure does.

I will try to let you know this weekend. There is a chance we will get the exhaust back on the truck and get it back on the road. (I hope!!!) If it runs better then we may attempt the ride down.

I'm in the same boat here. Trying to get my truck back on the road in time. If so we are leaving WED morning early. You are welcome to convoy down with us if you like.

Hi guys,

I have posted minimally on the forum, but lurked and read a lot of great posts here. What a great resource! I just purchased a part from Jerry Lemond for my Trooper that I of course found through the forum.
I live in Thomasville, NC about 30 miles from the Eldorado Outpost and I have a 1992 SOHC Auto Trooper that was GIVEN to me about two years ago by the original owner.
Way back in the day I purchased a '89 Raider new and later sold it to my best friend who then later sold it to my son. It is now gone from our family, but we spent quite a few hours in that thing down at Uwharrie. I haven't been there in years.
Since watching some of you on the forum I considered coming down this month to say hi and meet some of you. I have a couple of questions maybe you could answer for me...
How does the weekend progress? Do you guys all go out together and explore trails during the day and then return to campsites in the evening? Would it be feasible to come down on Saturday only and hang out for a while, or would I have a hard time finding anyone?
And lastly, my Trooper is 100% stock with all-season tires currently. If it's dry will I be able to go along? In other words to most of the places have easy routes alongside the hard ones.
I remember going up hills in that Raider that I thought would be impossible!

Thanks! Brent

Things are very informal. People tend to do there own thing. Some go boating, some hang around camp. I am hoping to hit the range if it opens in time.

Because the trails are short, groups are hitting the trails 3-4 times per day for an hour or 2 at a time. Usually word spreads by word of mouth and we end up meeting at the bath house. This system seems to work quite well. There are always runs for newbies and people who do not want to damage their daily drivers as well as night runs and runs where people end up breaking ****.

My 0.02 would be to come on out! As Mario indicated there's a lot of different activities you could join in on, if trails are your particular interest then I'm sure you'll be able to find a group to run the ones you feel comfortable doing. I personally tend to run the trails like a hamster when I'm out there, so if all else fails you can track me down and I'll roll with you. :)

Not enough time to post everything. :evil:

Eli... GREAT JOB on the new trail map. :thumbup: After all these years, I'm pretty sure I can figure out where I'm lost at with the map. :lol:

Bluesuzu... come on out for the day or the weekend, ride along with someone or do some trails in your rig and enjoy yourself. :D '

Mike, sorry to hear that you're not going to be able to make it... I'm :evil: 'cause you can't make it but I'm very happy to hear that things are looking bright in your future. :D

3 weeks to go and so much to do... :roll:

mckenziedg,
We are taking the trooper out tomorrow for a one night camping trip. If all goes well we will likely be traveling to NC in two weeks. Is the spot still available? Also, will it accommodate a 26ft camper? (outs is a hybrid. about 20ft when closed 26ft with the bunk ends opened.

squatch,
I wanted to follow you guys down but it looks like we will be leaving Thursday. :(

Thanks guys.

I read back through the thread and didn't see any reference to trail passes, so thought I'd post up a quick note for anyone who might be visiting Uwharrie for the first time. There is no fee or pass required to access to the park itself (i.e: campgrounds, etc.) but if you plan on driving on any of the OHV trails, you will need to purchase an OHV trail pass. One of the easiest places to get this is at the Eldorado Outpost which is marked on Eli's map, you can get single or multi-day pass which is $5/day (per vehicle), or a season pass which is $30 (per vehicle) - just ask for one at the register.

If anyone making their first trip out has any questions feel free to PM me. :)

Here is a list of all the places that sell the trail passes. The outpost is obviously the easiest place to get them.

The chances of me making this trip are getting slimmer by the day. Of course work had to schedule everything possible due the week after, doesn't look like I'm going to be able to take Thursday and Friday off.

That's a bummer, only once a year. You, slainer or ruination or anybody needs to crash I have #45 with just a SMALL camper and truck. If Janet doesn't care you can crash here but I'm not sure about the neighborhood. :mrgreen:
