With stock wheels probably the only trimming needed would be the seam inside behind the plastic insert. Then just use a heat gun to soften and reshape the plastic. I know 30's fit (245/70-16) I think 31's might be a bit tight but may work ok on stock rims without trimming. Might have to lose the front mud guards though.
I will post pics for sure. If I end up having to order them. It may take a week or two to come in.
I am still going to still get my stock wheels back, even though the tires suck.
I do not want my wheels to continue rubbing on my upper ball joint.
Different sort of truck I know - but I am running 265/70 Bridgstones on 16x7 rims and they work great. they are pretty close to exatly the same diameter and width as my 31" Buckshots on 15" rims - so if you can run 31x10.5x15 then the 265x70r16 size will fit with no problems
Thats just it. Who would buy these? Lol. The population around here is like 180,000.
I REALLY want them soo bad. No one has it locally so id have to get it from tirerack.
That would take about 4-5 weeks to get here. And im planning on leaving in late May or June to WA, with the truck.
So I may just get them when im out there.
Cause I know I will need new wheels, when I get the new paint job.
So since my truck is finally out here in the states. I now can get "any" tire that I want easily. But since im no longer employed because I am going to be a full-time college student my funds are kinda on the low.
I made my mind up and want to get the Bridgestone Revo 2's. Bridgestone has a $100 check card for you if you buy 4 new tires. Now i cant make my mind up on the size. Main concern is MPG's, since I dont want to be paying alot more on gas than I really have to.
245/70's (stock)
same MPG's and no calculation adjustments. but it will look weird to me cause it doesnt fill my wheel wells right since the small lift.
265/70's
slightly bigger than stock. not sure how much MPG loss (shouldnt be too much).
265/75's
alot bigger than stock. a little more strain on the drivetrain. and requires trimming. not sure how much MPG loss.
So I want to go with the 265/75 tires, if it means I wont sacrifice drivetrain performance and too much MPG's. Any input would be great.
I had the same exact truck as you (color and all), and the first thing I did after driving it off the dealer lot was go to Firestone and buy the Revo 2's in 265/70/16. I had them installed on the factory steel wheels and never regretted that decision. I put MANY miles on those tires in wet/dry/snow conditions and absolutely loved them. The guys at my Firestone were cool. They took my brand new (off brand) dealer installed tires off, made a phone call to another dealer, pre-sold my tires for $100 and gave me the credit on my Revos. I think my store was an exception instead of the rule, but maybe you can try to talk to them and see what they'll do. Good luck.
Dae - I have the 1.5 gen rodeo with the 265/75 revo's; I haven't lost any mpg on the truck since new, in fact; the truck's original tire size was 225/75 16's.
In town, during spring/summer, I can average 17-19mpg with the automatic; on the highway, with no load (i.e. no boat trailer), I can average anywhere from 19-23mpg, wind depending.
I once attempted to put 245/70's back on the truck just to see if it made a difference in overall power, etc. truck looked funny with the mild lift, and honestly, the only slight power difference was noted at getting on the highway.
I've ran 265's on 16x6 wheels before with no issues; however, I'm now running them on 16x8 wheels.
I ran around with 2001 Trooper springs in the rear. The truck had a slight rake because I never cranked the front up. I towed trailers A LOT with that rig, and as soon as I put the load on the hitch, the rear would level out. The Trooper spring rate was perfect for pulling my 16' bass boat or the multi-state uhaul pulls I made 3 times.
Why are 245/75's Revo 2's cheaper than all the other sizes I want? Heres what I got from discount tires site for pricing
245/70/16 $135
245/75/16 $126
265/70/16 $148
265/75/16 $169 or $200 for LT's
Is there a big difference between 245/75's and 265/70's? I would be saving about $88 if I go with the 245/75, and only sacrifice 0.1" in tire size. Anyone care to help me understand?
Dae - the gas mileage on my truck has never changed, even when new with stock tires.
As for the difference of the 245/75's versus the 265/70's, the 265's will look a tad wider, but the 75's will take on a very slight taller appearance.
On my truck with 8" rims, it's very noticeable between the 2 width's; on 6" rims that I had before, it was not as noticeable.
Make sure you get LT tires, irregardless of the size you choose. You really want to get the C-load rating or 6-ply's; they will last quite a bit longer then the P-rated tires. They will also have a deeper starting tread depth, and better for off-road use.
Thanks Ramblin! That helped alot. Im going to drive around and get some quotes for the fender trimming. And if its reasonable I will go with the 265/75's
