so i'm buying another car that is better on gas. it's an 02 civic. problem is i'm short and the seat needs to be scooted almost all the way up for me to push the clutch in all the way in order to shift gears.

i know there are pedal pals and kits and such, but they cost way too much

anybody got any tips on making one? or a cheap one to be found online?

only paid $600 for the civic so i'm not wanting to drop $100 just for 1 clutch pedal extension

There's some fabbing involved, but that'll be the case with any affordable solution... Should hold up better than a 2x4 tied to the pedal assembly. ... I was trying to avoid any Indiana Jones/Short Round references. but I just screwed the pooch on that didn't I?

And a vid of a guy extending a gas pedal, could be adapted to a clutch pedal. Maybe two of those wedges side by side?

You could add material to any plan to get the extension you need.

The guy in the vid said he was also doing that to get his daughter farther away from the air bag zone.. A real concern there. I've never been hit with one but my daughter has been smacked with air bags twice, both times the air bag banged her up more than the wrecks did.

I would fab something up. Maybe grab another pedal from the junk yard and build a clamp to tighten down on the old pedal.

i saw both the video and the step by step fabrication you linked. the wedge in the video doesn't reach as far as i need. and the fabrication was more complicated than i could do unfortunately

hmmm. Don't guess you're in north Texas...? I could take a swing at it.

Looking at pics of the assembly... can't adjust travel. Putting spacers on the firewall to move assembly back opens a whole other can of worms..

All the pedal extension schemes I can think of involve lots of drilling and screwing in screws while standing on your head.. $50 to a craigslist handyman?

A friend with a welder could either cut the pedal arm off and reweld at a different angle or weld another pedal arm to the existing arm at the appropriate angle. That'd play merry hell with the resale value.

Back in the 80's my wife had a Honda CRX. She couldn't quite get the clutch pedal all the way down. (She's 4'11").
I cut a couple of squares out of the tread of a car tire about the size of a pedal pad. I then stacked them and drilled a couple of 1/4" holes through them and the metal plate of the clutch pedal and bolted them to it. It gave her an extra inch or so. Was still on there when we sold the car 13 years later.

That's awesome! I didn't even think about some kind of sleeve to hold it together, was fixating on bolts and screws.

That a shrink wrap tube kind of thing or just an undersized rubber sleeve stretched over it?
