Well.. there is also http://www.searchtempest.com/ which is what I use. You put in your zip code and put a distance and it shows all the ads within range, and it divides up the ads by section/town/area.

That sounds better. Thanks.

I wasnt trying to say "hey this is better" or anything. lol. After looking at the thread again I feel like it may have seemed like that, but that's not what I was trying to do. I just though it would be useful to have a collaboration of sites because although craigslist is great, the search on it sucks. lol.

Heck no. I didn't take it that way at all. You'll find I'm very open to listening to others. Thanks again. I know that most folks out there will appreciate this much faster way of searching craigslist.

For all of you (other then me) that have an Android smart phone, try the FREE app called 'CraigsNotifica' you can set as many regions as you want, & how often to search, & what criteria to search for... All in your phone 8)

Craigslist has a statement in their "terms of use", against using these sorts of 'tools'.

If you use Craigslist at all, you are agreeing to the TOU.

Maybe no biggie, but if they catch you, they can block acess.

The pertinant part of the TOU:

Additionally, you agree not to:

u) use automated means, including spiders, robots, crawlers, data mining tools, or the like to download data from the Service - unless expressly permitted by craigslist;

Life's a risk.

There are sites that I'm sure violate that snippet of CLs agreement, however I think the dev has obtained said permission. The app has been out for quite a while and is on multiple platforms. Besides, they are just shooting themselves in the foot not amllowing these broad searches directly com their own site. And IF you did get blocked... ipconfig -> release -> renew -> TaDa! New IP address.

Agreed.

I just found this out today, because I was having problems getting onto the local craigslist site.

During my flailing about, trying to figure out why, I was told the above by someone who thought I had been using these global search sites.

I thought it might be of interest to someone.

Kind of a late reply here but, that's what I use. It lets me know when a certain vehicle is for sale in my area.

I was using an awesome software called Ad Notifier Pro V2.27 but back in mid 2012 the CL attorneys sent "cease and desist" letters to many of the developers of many 3rd party apps that would search CL and notify you.
So the Ad Notifier software and many other CL notification sofware programs went to the wayside.
Recently I've just been doing manual searches on CL and searchtempest.....but its too time consuming. Then I found a site called ifttt.com
(stands for "if this then that"). The site lets you set up recipes where if a certain item appears on CL you will automatically get an email. Its not as user friendly as CL but if you're like me and always looking for random stuff but dont wanna spend the time searching, its a good tool.
There are youtube vids you can watch to learn how to use ifttt.com for CL searches.
